Im looking to set up an Aimpoint on a 16" midlength to cowitness with my Aimpoint. Im planning on starting with the Aimpoint ML2-2x that I found on the EE and was hoping that someome would be able to help with regards to co-witnessing these with the Troy BUIS.

Im not a fan of running the back up sights raised all the time, and Im not sure if this is do-able with the 2x magnification of this model. Given that they are two separate sighting systems should I even try and co-witness the 2x optic with the BUIS?

Given the lengthy battery life of the Aimpoint I should be fine for range and rifle matches .. just that the irons are good back up for longer shots out to 100-150.

Anyone have any experience with this type of set up?

I hope to run this till I can get the $$$ for a 1-4 times optic and Larue / ADM mount...

yes, any magnified optic will mess with co-witness of iron sights.

I would maybe consider a true QR mount for the Aimpoint, that way you can dump the optic in a drop pouch, and flip up the sights.

I think the 2x Aimpoint's are a little more picky as for eye relief.

ETA

you can sell the Aimpoint mount, and get something like an ADM or GG&G mount.

The ADM-68 "Standard" height I think is the same height as the Aimpoint LRP without a spacer. It would be an "absoulte co-witness" if you could co-witness it (AKA same height plane as the iron sights, so no cheek wield movement)

Socom Supply sells the ADM mounts (about 120-ish bucks), Wolverine sells the GG&G units, although they are a little more.

I have an ARMS M68 mount (as in the stock picture above) and had a riser for it. Its a better mount overall but without the riser its a real low cheek weld. Considering I have the QRP and riser it will do for now. i have a fair bit of rail to play with so Im hoping to get the correct eye relief for the 2x.

ADM seems to be well made and solid. If I ditch this and get another 1x Aimpoint than I would consider the 3x magnifier and the suitable twist mounts. We'll see how this goes for the time-being ... I"ll be looking for faster BUIS like the GG&G or Magpul MBUS in future ...

Thanks for the input.

So you have the ARMS mount, but CURRENTLY without a spacer?

ARMS makes 3 different height spacers for the mount. One 1/4 inch, one 3/8 inch and one half inch spacer.

Wolverine Supplies should have em for you, on their price list its 10.95

Yup ARMS 17 M68 Aimpoint mount. I use one with the RAS II and it co-witnesses perfectly without a riser. I paid too much for the riser spacer at TSE :(
The QRP will work for now (spacers were available locally at Daves Surplus).
