ANybody have an aimpoint or similar device mounted on a semi auto remington or any other semi rifle.

What are your impressions?

I really don't want to mount a scope on this gun but I could use a step up from iron sights.

I messed around years ago with aimpoints on highpowered rifles. In my opinion they were great on deer sized animals at 100 yds or less. I found that the dot covered up too much of the body to make confident shots beyond... Under 100 yds target aquisition is very quick, and in low light conditions that would cause the front sight to blend in with the intended target they are also great.

I am not sure if the current offerings with different/variable dot size would be an improvement or not.

In your application my choice would be a good quality low powered variable scope with good light gathering capabilities and a wide field of vision...

I would agree with the previous post. If you are hunting in woods and don't expect to make shots over 100yds, they are probably great. Try to find one with a 2MOA dot. I'm running a MicroH1 on my Marlin 1894SS and really like it, but it's a 100yd rifle.

I just mounted a T-dot on my Remington 750 and think it's the best thing I ever did. I'd suggest some form of crosshairs so that you know you're holding the rifle level but otherwise haven't had the issues previously mentioned. The Weaver base is low enough that if I remove the rings I can still use my iron sights should the need arise.
