Here is my new to me long ranger, Ruger No.1 stainless in 6BR Norma.

Specially made forend that incorporates a picatinny style rail , cooling sections, and a solid base for the receiver.

1K groups are awesome!

1 1/8" at the muzzle, 1/3/8 " at the breach, IIRC.

Cat, Very nice...What's the material the forend is made from, and how is it attached?

You know you won't have to go to all that trbl if it was a bolt gun:rolleyes:

The material id aluminum, and it is bolted, and also in two parts upper and lower , so it virtually
sanwiches the barrel at the breach end for the length of the rail.
The rest is floating, with the large cooling vents.

Trouble? weren't no trouble, just plunk down enough cash to by a good used truck, and Bob's your uncle!!:D

Cat,

I almost missed the little BR round in the picture. Cannelure on the bullet? Throat length looks like .400" Say it isn't so?

NormB

DOH!!
The bullet does in fact have a cannelure, it is a 100 grain Hornady.
They were the only bullets I had at the time, as I didn't own a 6mm rifle at the time that was a precision rifle, and I only hand 6mm for hunters.
Old badger dug up some 105 Amax molys, which I finished off today while at the Outpost of the Empire ( first run of the year!)

I also have some 105 Scenars now, and some 107 Match Kings.
Even the 100 grain Interlocks were interesting at 500!:D
This rifle won't see that type of bullet again however, and I may even keep the moly bullets going , I will ahve to see what it groups like with the different bullets....
The bullets are soft seated, I haven't measured the throat yet.

How in the heck are you going to mount irons on that? How does the handstop attach?
I figger if I get out the side grinder I can cut off enough on each side of that forend to fit my hand!:D
I has a raail that the handstop will fit, no prob.

Irons?

No sweat, I can D&T the barrel for a block, and mount a block onto the side of the receiver.
I'll just borrow Old Badger's 1/2", heavy duty-drill anythin' Makita drill!!

A most interesting rifle indeed. Nice job!!!!

how is the trigger? Any shooting results yet?

don't give up on the Hornady hunting bullets quite yet. They may surprise you with how well they shoot. 95gr SST, 87gr Vmax are all fantastic bullets.

enjoy the load development.

Hello catnthehat.

I Hope you enjoy your new rifle it served me well in several Fclass matches please let me know if you have any questions regarding the rifle. I am happy it went to someone who appreciates its quality only the best parts went into that gun in fact I had three(3) identical guns built 1= 6br norma 1=6.5x284 1= 308 win the idea was to pick two guns for the world F class champs in South Africa a mid range and a long range rifle circumstances conspired against my participation however . I still have the 6.5 & the 308 both are unfired the only reason that rifle went down range was because of the way the stock fit me ( I have the same problem with the other two- they are for sale as well ) otherwise I never would have sold it . good shooting & enjoy

Regards
ED.

I know from first hand experince that if you get something from Mr. Begg, you get the best quality parts & workmanship!!!;)

Ed, the stock problem is not unique to Rugers , but all single shots for thee most part!
It has to do with where the action ends, a bolt action stops right at the grip, whereas on a single shot the grip farther back.
That is why a set of offset rings is almost a prerequesite for Rugers!
I love the rifle, and am very happy you saw it here.
It shoots very well at 1K and in , off a bipod and ice bench,:D

ED - Cat, nice Rig! Any chance of seeing some photos of the aluminum structure? I'm sure one fella would have cut the forend down:eek: to a lower profile (while still not changing the rigidity:rolleyes: ) to aid in cooling, but I think is is super as is!:D :D Just ribbing you Jerry...

Todd, the load I wass given for this rifle was 30 grains of Varget behind a 105 Amax, but i am going to try several brands and sizes of bullets.
The velocity shout be about 2900FPS with the 105's I think.
I have some 95 grain wildcats that are almost as long as the AMX 105, and as soon as Richard gets his jackets he will make me some longer bullets.
I have some 107 Seirras and some 105 Scenars as well.

Skullboy, I do not know Ed, but sure do know Paul Reibin, and Paul would never sell a dog ! Thanks for the good words on the Ruger, yes it is way cool!

Joe, I don't plan on taking the forend off till it needs barrel work!
I could send you a pick of the belly and a detail of the sides however....
Cat

BTW - if you want to try some Bergers....let me know, I'll make sure I get some to you.
