So my son is turning twelve in august and he’s recently got into shooting grandpas and my younger brothers pellet/bb guns. So I was thinking about getting him a pellet/bb gun for his birthday in august this year. The ones we have here he’s tried are a break barrel and a pump crossman and he has troubles with both lol. So I’m wondering if there is a self contained air gun ? Something that can have one or two C02 cartridges so he don’t have to worry about pumping it ten times or breaking a barrel, or at least asking me to be doing always for him haha.

I’d rather not spend a PILE of money as I’m sure not long from now, he’ll wanna shoot my 22’s or at least try lol. I’d also like him to get comfortable with them before moving to something more lethal. As well I’m not made of money haha

How much are you hoping to spend?

What were the troubles he was having with the pump and break barrel?

Well he couldn’t pump the gun anymore then 4-5x I believe, not strong enough. Same thing with the break barrel don’t believe he has the strength yet. He’s a very small build for going on twelve

There are many different break barrel guns out there, size and power wise.

You have not mentioned your budget yet. Are you opposed to buying used?
If not see if you can find a Slavia 630 /77. They are very good value for money, accurate and because of the long barrel they #### super smooth and light. Unfortunately they are not sold new anymore.

Or go with co2 or pcp.

Nothing too elaborate...for the first one.

Crosman® Optimus .177 Caliber Air Rifle, 495 FPS, 4 x 32 Adjustable Scope $219.99

Well I’d be willing to spend 150$ But anything more I could buy him a actual 22 for that lol. He has tried pistols But says he prefers the rifles over the pistol. Only stores I have locally that sell em are Canadian Tire, Peavey Mart,

It’s very difficult to argue against a CZ 22LR of some description. Many times, youngsters can shoot better that a basic air gun or 22LR can. Maybe a trade with someone? 22 aficionados usually have multiples and appreciate seeing a kid have some success.

Get the break barrel springer, you don't want to spend a load of money on CO2 cartridges that last like 20x shots! He's turning 12, Tell him he's almost a teen ager and he's got to 'man up' LOL then get him the Crossman Phantom (or the Optimus as mentioned above which is the phantom in a wood stock). They go on sale a crappy tire or Peavymart all the time, it is also very easy to tinker with and do mods to if you like that sort of thing.

I would get the .22 version... and Crossman premier hollow points a pretty accurate out of them.

Ya that’s the only thing that bugs me is having to buy c02 cans for him always lol, should just get him a break barrel or pump like suggested. He’ll eventually be able to pump it ten times lol.

Only drawback is Crappy's Policy.

It is our policy to sell airguns and airgun ammunition only to person 18 years of age or older. Airguns and airgun ammunition are not sold where prohibited by law. Airguns do not require a firearms license.

Ya I’ll have to check on GP and see if anything strikes my eye, also why I was thinking of a multi pump for him. Tell him pump as many times as you can it will still shoot just not as far or fast and as he gets use to it or stronger he’ll be able to pump it up more lol

I was also a very small kid as well, always tiny compared to others in my class and skinny lol

Red riders been outgrown?.... He had a Red Ryder ya?

Nope he hasn’t had a pellet or BB gun for himself yet, he’s only shot grandpa’s break barrel he bought when he was 16yrs old and he has shot a multi pump that my younger brother owns

He's 12?
- He ought to be able to work any of the break barrel...

In the cadets program we have kids shooting (and pumping) the Daisy 853... Sure, at first some of them struggle a bit... but that's a good incentive for them to do some push-ups

Well the break barrel of my dads (grandpas) he can’t do it, it’s got a VERY stiff spring in it. Even for an adult it takes a bit of muscle lol. Could be cuz it was bought a long time ago when there wasn’t any regulations on things too haha

He’ll be turning twelve on the 24th of august
