Anyone thinking about switching to, or shooting more air guns as the recession storm passes?

Gun and Ammo (+ reloading component) price and availability seem to getting out of hand.

I saw some pics and video of a recent Field Target (FT) match. It looks very challenging and seems like fun.

I'm wondering if you have considered air guns as an alternative?

Yes! :D

I have been seriously considering buying an adult air gun since I saw a feature on Gamo air guns on Shooting USA.

They seem very cool, and I can shoot them in my basement or backyard. I will probably pick one up, but just start with a used cheaper model.

I used to shoot a lot of air pistol down in the basement. Not only is the shooting cheap, but it saves a lot on gas driving to a range. Rimfire is a great alternative as well at the range. Its all quality shooting IMO.

I never thought about that, air pistol would probably help alot with technique, and the limits of my basement aren't so much a big deal.

I was more attracted at first to the rifles because you can hunt with them

It all depends on your shooting style, but with the right pistol, you'll find yourself aiming to hit dime sized targets across a basement. Maybe some friendly competition with friends and family that otherwise wouldn't be at a range shooting restricted.

How much would you say a decent air pistol costs these days? I have tripped across some airsoft reviews on youtube for Glock and Baretta, but never watched em

Not that I'm advocating or promoting anything, but has anyone heard of these people who fire .22 pistols in their basement? Apparently it's mildly popular with some US city-dwellers. They use Aguila ammo to minimize the report and just practice on a chunk of wood or something.

I got a Walther CPSport through the EE, and it is amazing! Very accurate. I have a setup in my basement and I'll just paste a target, and plink away for 20 or so minutes. I found it really helps my groupings when I get back to the real guns.

Weihrauch HW45 in .22 is around 430fps or .177 cal at just under 500 fps.[Very high German quality].No CO2 to fail in the cold or buy.About $400 from D+L or the Russian Baikal IZH 46M .177 target pistol at 495fps.[rated a best buy ]..............Harold ***adult airguns are weapons not toys like the stuff CT and Wally World peddle. My HW80K/.22 relaxes crows to 50 yards.Only the wealthy could afford airguns for hunting in the 16 th Century and they took Red Deer and boar. The Austrian army totally outclassed the opposition with airguns verses blackpowder. If the 60 cal pellet didn't kill you the Doctor would!!!!!!!

If you think a cpsport is good, you've yet to fire a real airgun. I have a cpsport, that is to say I had one, before I broke it apart. Pellets that aren't properly seated in the clip will jam the gun, then pulling too hard on the trigger will break the trigger linkage that seems to be made of zinc. The trigger pull on a cpsport is apalling, I think more than 12 pounds.

This site is a good reference for any one interested in lookalike airguns.

I used to work with a guy who was really into airguns and collecting them. Not that this has anything to do with a guy who want realism or pure fun, but he ranked them as pneumatic ones 1st choice, springers 2nd and C02 3rd. The most popular ones, and the most "attractive" ones all are C02. I bought a Diana single shot 177 some 20 some years ago and its still a great gun. But, shooting it is more like Bullseye shooting and not like any sort of action shooting. The Cabella's catalogue has some nice looking realistic C02 pistols, but you'd have to shoot one to see what the trigger, sights and accuracy are like.

I'm doing the rimfire thing, pellet guns haven't done it for me since i was 14.

looks like you arent using the RIGHT pellet guns then.

Pick up a 22 cal Benjamin Super Streak side by side with a rimfire.

Only difference you will see is in your wallet.

I have taken the plunge.........and will be adding a quality air pistol to the family soon! There is a new Benjamin out that is superb. Its a little pricy but is a beauty.
