I know nothing about air rifles! Now that that has been put out there I need some help. I have a need for a quality air rifle that can ethically take coyotes and fox at no more than 50 yards. I have a whitetail bait set up and I need something that can take a coyote cleanly and relatively quietly. Please give me specifics as to make caliber brand. This is of course if such a creature exists. Thank you a bunch in advance.

Benjamin rogue .357 air rifle.
This ought to do the trick. The only thing I'm not sure about is if it's available for purchase in Canada.

Airguns powerful enough to take out a coyote ethically at that distance will be the PCP type and .25 caliber and up although there are exceptions, such rifles will be as loud and probably louder than a .22 powder burner. Silencers are illegal of coarse so I think the Rogue if still made has a sound moderating shroud that would make it illegal here.
Here are some large caliber airguns that will get the job done but you will also need a way to get the air into them. These are also reasonably priced for for their capabilities

These are a little more expensive.

Well my buddy dropped a Coyote with his Air Force Condor using his .25 barrel. You can use 25.4 to over 60 grain Black Mamba slugs.

Many of the guys in my Club have built 9mm/.357 Condors as well with simple barrel and valve/hammer swaps.

My .25 Condor whacks gophers to 150 yards and is loud as well you need a scuba tank and 3000 PSI to fill it.

Love my powder burners but also love my .25 Condor.

I see the rogue has been discontinued. As stated earlier I know very little about air rifles and their technology. I wondered if the more powerful rifles didn't sound just like a sub sonic .22. This is the experience I was hoping for. I was hoping for something that was factory made and over the counter so to speak.

No, and no.

Powerful air rifles are loud. In the power levels you are looking for, like as not, louder than a rimfire.

Then, you get to deal with that the quality PCP guns are expensive, and you need either an expensive pump, or a scuba tank to fill it.

Quiet at that range, and available, amounts to a crossbow or compound bow, and a bunch of practice.

Cheers

If they can kill hogs and deer with big bore air rifles, you can certainly kill a coyote... but I am pretty sure that you are unprepared for the expense and work involved...

Please explain both the cost and the work involved, also which caliber and model do they use to kill deer and hogs. As in my first post I mentioned I knew nothing of air rifles or if such a thing existed so I am looking for specifics here if they do not just generalities

Sounds like a good job for any decent rifle chambered in 22 LR?

Well in specific I have an active deer bait and I would like to take the coyotes with as little disturbance as possible. It has been said that the certain air rifles make the same noise as a .22lr so if that is the case I agree that would work just fine. I am not sure if I am chasing a unicorn here but I would like to rid the world of a few coyotes without ruining my whitetail bait.

By "as little disturbance as possible" I assume you mean as quietly as possible.

The noise from any type of firearm or air rifle comes from the muzzle blast. That's the sudden release of gasses as the projectile exits the barrel. If the projectile size, weight, speed, and barrel length are all identical, then it doesn't matter what type gun it is, the muzzle blast will sound just as loud. The same amount of barrel pressure is needed to propel the projectile, and that same pressure will sound the same as it exits behind the projectile.

Your typical Canadian tire pellet gun is only imparting about 3 ft lbs of energy to the pellet, whereas a .22 rifle is closer to 120 ftpbs. So it's easy to see why one would think a pellet gun would be a quiet option, but when you start getting into any type of gun that will have the necessary power to kill a coyote, it's gonna be loud no matter what.

Maybe someday they'll let us use suppressors... Until then, it's either a bow, or a Leonidas worthy spear throw.

Wouldn't be legal in this province (NL), but as already stated, there are certainly air rifles out there which are up to the task.
