Hi, I know the title is strange but please no judgments or insults.
I simply want to know if a CenterPoint air rifle scope can handle the recoil of 223 ammo.
I'm going on a marksmanship course but don't have the money for a bolt action.
I am deploying with a Colt LE6920 with a small game 3-9x32 CenterPoint scope.
What are your thoughts guys.

Huh, I have no idea.

However, in the interest of helping a brother out, I have a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 that I am doing absolutely nothing with. Bought it a while back, mounted it on a rifle, but never got around to shooting it. It's yours if you want it, though it does not have exposed turrets so it may not be suited to a marksman course since I know a lot of them require you to make adjustments quickly. Let me know.

I wouldn't make it a permanent fixture, but...

Reviewer on Amazon says it works on his Savage Axis .223.

I don't know anything about that particular scope, but scopes that are air-rifle rated are built to withstand some pretty severe vibration and the unusual "back-and-forth" recoil of a spring-piston air gun. If your scope is one of those, it will probably have no problem with the insignificant recoil of a .223.

p.s. No judgments or insults here...but you might need to prepare for some once you get to the course. I suspect that even a $150 or $200 Bushnell scope would be of higher optical and build quality than any Centerpoint model.

i don't think your scope will hold zero very long, but i never owned one of them. Just going by experience, and owning a 6920, i really would take up the offer of the Bushnell elite, which i also own. You can leave turret caps off and adjust with a nickel.

An air rifle rated scope will handle a .223 no problem. FIY, air rifle scopes are engineered for reverse recoil, not so much more recoil. The issue with an air gun scope will be parallax, usually air rifle scopes are set to 25-50 yards max.

A $2000 gun with a $50 scope? Mmkay.

What do you mean by "deploying"?

I would say it sure will absolutely handle the recoil of .223 ammo, but for how long is anyone’s guess. I ran cheap airsoft optics on my AR, and a deal extreme scope on my M14. The Fakepoint lasted almost two years, and the scopes died after two range trips. I wasn’t on a course though, so if my equipment broke, I just lost gas money driving to the range. If you’re going to be on a course, with repetitive shooting for a period of a couple of days (how long is your course?), then it would be pretty crappy to have it fail on you in the middle. Is there no way you can obtain or borrow a proper rifle scope? Stevebot-7 has graciously offered you a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40, I would make it happen if I were you. Or borrow someones' scope!

Also, you’re going on a marksmanship course with an AR and substandard glass. I’m assuming this is on your own dime? Because when you said “deployed”, it sounded as if you were LE/MIL, but I guess it’s unlikely that your department or agency would send you on a course using your own equipment, let alone send you on such a course knowing that you don’t even have a scope. So that has me asking how much did this course set you back, and with the time and money you’re investing in the course alone, what are you going to do if/when your cheap glass craps out on you? You’ll be kicking yourself because you won’t be able to enjoy the rest of the course. Money lost, time lost, but maybe experience gained – don’t go with crap glass.

Guys, thanks for the feedback. I am a close-protector provider with GardaWorld and this course is by invite only. Basically, the guy running it wanted to bring a few people together and show some trade skills.
As for the AR, I just purchased the Savage 10TR through SFRC, so I won't be worrying about the m4 idea. I've decided to save up some money and purchase a decent scope. Any ideas for around the 1000-1500 dollar mark??

Given that even NCStars often can't handle recoil, I'd go with that Bushnell idea...

I'd downplay the word "deploy" - it's usually reserved for LEO and Mil... just sayin'

From the GardaWorld site:

"Our close protection teams, made up of highly trained former US and UK Special Forces professionals, provide individually tailored support."

That'd be you then? Ex spec ops?

Tell us more about your training with a pellet gun scope.

They have $869 Bushys plus a $50 mail in rebate.....in case anyone wants to get into a US made AR without breaking the bank. I got a TR as well, you LE or MIL? I'm going to throw on my Busnell Elite Tactical 5-15x40mm. It's inexpensive at $450, so for the $1000-1500 mark, you could probably yourself into a Leupold....hell, a few hundred bucks more and you could probably get a Nightforce. I've also heard lots of people throwing a Sightron sIII onto their TRs.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone for some excellent ideas for scopes. As for my background, I would definately not say anything especially on some Internet open forum. Come on guys!!

Lol, was waiting for the "Your gun costs this much? You need a million dollar scope then!" Comment. Air rifle scopes are built to with stand recoil in both directions, they are not any "Tougher" Then a rifle scope, rifle scopes are just not built to handle recoil in the opposite direction.

My honest opinion would be to get a good scope. You do not need to spend half the cost of the rifle, thats a stupid myth, any expensive scope will be better then a cheap one, thats all there is to it. If you buy a 400 dollar savage axis, will a 200 dollar scope suddenly be awesome? No, its still cheap scope. Skip this class, shoot/practice and get really good, then take a class.
