Hi guys. I got younger lads, preteens.
They are yapping about airsoft... 'they're friends do it...'
I'm not allowed to hit Canadian tire with them without going by the airsoft case and being pestered with buying them the guns.... Anyway, I'm not opposed to airsoft, it beats xbox and tablets. What are solid entry level airsoft guns and what should I be looking at?
My questions specifically:
1. What should I buy for quality entry level?
2. How much should I be spending?
3. What kind of safety gear is essential?

I buy quality with my gun's and bows, not gonna stray from this philosophy.
Thanks
Rob

Oh Crap! Sorry guys. I look at the airgun forum once in a blue moon and really had no idea about airsoft being frowned upon.
Thanks
Rob

It definitely depends what you plan on doing with them. If the plan is for friendly battles outside a nice electric rifle would probably be the best. G & G armament seems to be good bang for your buck on that one. If you want a pistol to go with it Id look for whatever your favorite pistol is, just buy a copy of it. Reading reviews online goes a long way in the airsoft world. Take most of them with a grain of salt but you can usually tell what you are getting based on reviews. Id buy everything from a dedicated airsoft store. C-tire sells junk.

As for how much to spend, thats a question only you can answer. Look for sales and you can get decent quality for 200$ and up. Below this i would be weary of its quality. Really nice ones start at 300 and go over 1000$

For safety gear you need need need safety glasses of some sort. Lots of people i play with wear a full face mask similar to that of paintball, or a separate mouth shield but that up to the individual. Gloves are nice too, nothing else really a necessity.

tldr;

A good electric rifle would be the best place to start. NEED GLASSES

Check out Replica Airguns.

<https://www.youtube.com/user/switchingtomac>

The Replica Airguns channel is dedicated to producing high quality Airgun and Blank Gun videos for the YouTube Community. Most of the guns I highlight are "Replicas" or close reproductions of various popular Firearms.

airsoft guns are so underated... everywhere.

gas blowbacks pistols and rifles are awesome, especially when you run it from high pressure air tanks.

when you shoot indoor the wind doesnt affect accuracy it can be used for training with good kicks!!!! and plenty more accuracy than you think... for half of pennies.

For all the non-believers heres a video.

Beware you will see the 2 most common types of airsoft.

Electric and gas blowback

you will notice a difference in sound and recoil.

They can all shoot very accurate, but gas blowback has always more noise and recoil.

Agree with you.

I never played an airsoft game and I hate electric airsoft guns! But, since few years, I discovered few very nice airsoft products! There is few steel(not zinc alloy, but steel) co2 blowback airsoft pistols on the market and the one that I know(Inokatsu 1911) is very fun to shoot and surprisingly accurate! I am also very interested by airsoft grenade launchers and some Russian made airsoft grenades that I would personally like to use on my land just to do some plinking:

I had friends in the past that were airsoft players and I have never been interested to be a part of their community. But now my favorite airgun for plinking in my backyard is a airsoft co2 pistol. I also bought a co2 rifle that shoot 4,5mm steel BBs and I realized that this is just an electric airsoft rifle with the electric internals swapped for co2 bb rifle parts. Airguns are not what they are used to be 30 years ago.

standing no rest shooting at 10m, few flyers = my fault, gun is more accurate than i am. im absolutely stunned with these results.

cybergun desert eagle full metal.

Only modification : maple leaf bucking, high pressure air valve connected to a tank for more consistency

If you’re near Barrie call Vincent at Sir Gamesalot - he’s returning messages, good for advice and repairs if needed on what he sells.

An Amoeba honeybadger is always fun going full auto on lipos... if your property is big enough a few aeg’s are a hoot, wear paintball face protection if you have or at a minimum shooting / safety glasses.

Best to avoid BP or CT - stick to someone that can service you or custom order for the long run.

A lot of people have taken issue w Hero Army Surplus of late, there was another thread recently...

Lol my airsoft habit is worse than my real steel habit....

If you want cheap that works, G&G (avoid Ctire, clearsoft is not airsoft!!!)
If you want great out of the box system that can run with real players VFC
If you want to spend and best of best... PTW or ZTW(custom gun builder at black blitz airsoft)

AEG over gas guns(gas is a pain and mags can go from 60-150$ each and one drop broke)

Basic needs, Gun, batteries, Ammo, face mask, vest, eye protection(do not skimp on this!!!)
Advanced needs . Use your imagination some guys run $10,000+!setups with mil grade night vision

Use 0.25g bb weight or higher the 0.12 and 0.2’s are horrible.

Frankly I could write 8pages in this, if you have specific question shoot me a pm, used to run Forums, a store, a field and various large milsim games across the country.

Enjoy and hide the wallet!!!

Dont understand the hate for airsoft, nor why it has no place in CGN but yet more unrelated topics (archery, knives, random hobbies) have dedicated sub forums ..... I just got into airsoft last year and so far its proven to be extremely fun! its a great excuse to get out of the house and get some serious exercise, learn somewhat useful tactics, meet new people and improve muscle memory for a price FAR cheaper then real firearms.

Airsoft is great!
AEG/auto electric gun - G&G in all their lines make great affordable bang for your buck and I have had zero issues in years. You will hear about all models makes and such pro's and con's. AirsoftCanada is a great forum. GBB/gas blow back - KJ Works for all my sidearms.

Airsoft is a blast. Gear up, team up and move out!

IMO it’s best to start them off with something like a g&g electric m4. Can be had for the 200 dollar mark. Buy a couple of extra batteries (non lipo) and a few high capacity mags. This is good enough to get them going in any game (in Victoria every other Sunday about 50-100 people play). I say this because airsoft can be like paintball and they could try it a few times and loose interest and then they sit in the closet. (Ie girls take over their lives). You won’t be at a loss with that basic equipment. It can always be bought and sold and if they decide to continue in the sport you will interact with people who are in the know and they can figure out what suits them best. Also as advised nothing you can buy from Canadian tire is airsoft really.

Most mid tier AEG rifles can be purchased around 300$ (dont buy electric pistols)

pros :

you dont have to pay for gas/co2
they are consistent in all weather
you dont have to maintain it beside cleaning barrel

con :

you have to buy a battery and a charger most of the time
you have to charge the battery to shoot

Gas blowback rifle or pistols

pros :

they are very realistic
makes a nice noise when you shoot
blowback action with recoil
you can run em with HPA tank for more power and consistency

cons :

rifles are expensive you cant buy a rifle under 400$ brand new
some of them dont perform too well under cold weather
you have to maintain internals for proper fonctioning

if your looking for a all around first gun i suggest getting an AEG compact rifle.

then buy a gas blow back pistol to explore the other side of airsoft

I was trying to find some other documents and stumbled across this:

Replica firearms
A replica firearm is a device that is not a real firearm, but one that was designed to look exactly, or almost exactly, like a real firearm. Replica firearms are prohibited devices in Canada.

To be prohibited as a replica firearm, a device must closely resemble an existing make and model of firearm. If it is an antique firearm, as defined by the Criminal Code and corresponding regulations, it is not prohibited.

Airsoft guns
Airsoft guns are devices that:

have a low muzzle velocity and muzzle energy
usually discharge projectiles made out of a substance such as plastic or wax
An airsoft gun, firing a .20g 6mm plastic pellet, with a muzzle velocity below 111.6 m/s (366 fps), and resembling with near precision an existing make and model of a firearm, other than an antique firearm, is a replica firearm and therefore a prohibited device.

in canada they have to shoot higher than 366 and lower than 499 fps. otherwise they cant be imported/ are prohibited device..

if they shoot lower than 366 they have to be clear transparent, this is the typical airsoft TOYS that can be found at canadian tire, most use a spring mechanism and are very low quality / low power toys.
these are completely different than "real" airsoft guns.
