Hey guys, I am a new member here at the forum, so I do apologize if this is a duplicated thread..and a redirect would be appreciated if already been discussed.

I have a Gamo Camo Rocket IGT (Nitro piston) 1300fps .177 and the factory 4x32mm scope leaves A LOT to be desired. The gun is fairly accurate with either the Gamo Rocket or the lighter, approximately 1100fps Gamo Bullet pellets. Any faster and the gun gets squirrely.

I had installed a Bushnell Banner scope. 3-9x40mm which I never could get zeroed..even at 25-30yds! :( I just want to know:

Do the IGT rifles have this "reverse recoil" ? And I selected the wrong type of scope?
And
Could anybody recomend a good little scope <150bucks with rings?
...its just for pests and plinking..but I do wanna hit my mark

Thanks in advance guys!

You need an "airgun rated" scope. Many scopes are rated for airguns, but yours has especially hard recoil. You might look at UTG Leapers or Hawke scopes. They make some models for under $150. Try looking at some of the Canadian air gun dealers' websites - e.g. Airgun Source, D&L Airguns, or Specialty Shooting Sports - for airgun rated scopes. It is also advisable to use one-piece mounts. To get the most accuracy from your air rifle, consider using heavier pellets -- 10.5 grains, or so. These will have a lower velocity which results in greater accuracy.

I suggest the bushnel banner 4-12 with adjustable objective and is airgun rated. I had one of them mounted on a diana 34 then an hw85 with no problems. Its a very decent scope for the money. Also check d&l airguns they have lots of scopes listed.

I'm really happy with the Hawke scopes, have experience with their 3-9 x 50 and the 8-32 x 56 and both are great scopes, and reasonably priced in each relative area. As grauhanen says keep the speed down, too close to the speed of sound and pellets de-stabilize. 900fps area is likely ideal for the upper speed ranges.
Airgun rated scopes are definitely required, I shook an old bushnell 22 scope to death on my Diana 34...

I am also in the market for a decent air rifle scope, as I just discovered today that the Tasco 3-9x I had put on my Mendoza springer wasn't air rifle rated...

Found that out after about 200 shots, when the crosshairs inside the scope fell off.

I had a fantastic Centre Point 4x32 scope that came on my crosman quest 1000. Really sorry the scope is gone now. Graduated in small increments and super fine crosshairs.

+1

My Benji Titan NP came with a CenterPoint 4x32 and it not only holds POA after a few hundred rounds, but also seems to be perfectly set up for the rounds the air rifle likes. Surprisingly good scope for what is basically a freebie. There are better ones out there of course, but for ot having to invest any more into the gun, it is a very good piece of optics.

I'm glad someone asked this question. I have a Crosman M16 style rifle 1200fps and I just trashed another .22mag scope. It was a 3-9 Simmons that I liked alot but the crosshairs broke after six shots of 10.5gr and then the entire reticle rotated counter clockwise. I was under the impression that air-gun rated was a less robust scope but the information presented here has educated me. Time to source an "air-gun rated" scope as I like to shoot out to 80+ yards. Thank you all very much.

Check out the device called a 'Dampamount' on Google. If you shoot a big springer then one of these items is a must have. Springers actually recoil in TWO directions - hard. The bigger the springer, the harder the hard.

Well thank you all for your help/suggestions. I was once told the IGT rifles have a traditional recoil. Similar to a .22Mag but now that I know I'm going to require air gun rated thats going to change my scope hunt a tad. Shame that my Bushnell Banner Dusk&Dawn didn't live :(

Just don`t buy a HAWKE brand scope. mine didn`t work right from start and warranty center dind`t fix it. Over $200.00 paper weight

I use a Leapers(UTG) bugbuster scope on my Benji Trail NP AW. Excellent scope. You cant go wrong with this scope or its brothers. I also have an Optisan Viper 4X16 sidewheel which is superb. I took it off to mount on my next purchase(Savage BTLSS)

I have one of those and used it on my CZ452 till I got a newer one.. it worked very well and I intend to use it on my Henry lever from time to time..

What was the problem exactly with the bushnell? Have you chronyed your Nitro piston gun?
I've heard reports of varied velocity and lots of flyers.

I see now that Burris has joined Vortex and Leuopld in the "lifetime transferable warranty with no receipt" club.

If I'm buying new or used I trend towards the club members.

Actually, that CenterPoint\Crossman 4X32 scope they sell for less than $50.00 at Canadian Tire works quite well. It's made for airguns and is quite accurate.
