Recently bought a Savage Model 64G .22LR rifle, and decided to get a scope for it. Well I went to the local gun shop with my rifle. The guy at the store showed me a bushnell scope which I bought and installed. When i got home I noticed the box said AIRGUN SCOPE. Do you guys think it will be ok for the .22? I know there is no recoil on the .22 so maybe it doesn't matter.

Surprising as it may be, spring airguns destroy regular firearm scopes, the sudden back and forth jerking of the spring powerplant is hell on optics. AG rated scopes are built to handle shock, so the smooth recoil of a firearm shouldn't be a problem.

Get a second opinion though.

You will be fine, Nabiul is quite correct, an airgun will destroy a good rifle scope but a rifle will never destroy and airgun scope.

The Leupold EFR 6.5-20x 40mm is an air rifle scope. I have two of them on .22LR rifles They are commonly used for rimfire and work really well. No problems.

Just for fun, every Leupold scope is rated for air rifles, it's just that some aren't very suitable due to the parallax setting. Every Leupold rimfire scope is rated for centerfire recoil as well, but the parallax is set for 50 yards.

I swiped this of Leupolds site.

The Leupold Answer Guide

What Scopes are Recommended for Air Gun use?
All Leupold scopes will withstand the spring recoil of air guns. Leupold's EFR (Extended Focus Range) scopes will focus down to 10 meters, and out to infinity. Leupold offers two models in EFR, the 6.5-20x40 EFR and the 3-9x33 EFR. Leupold's Custom Shop also offers parallax changes to most Leupold scopes for a charge of $15.00 plus $15.00 shipping and handling. Having the parallax changed can allow the user to focus the scope down to very close distances for air gun applications.

The Leupold Answer Guide

Will the recoil of a centerfire rifle harm a rimfire scope?
Recoil of a centerfire rifle will not harm a rimfire scope. The Leupold rimfire scope is manufactured to the same durability specifications and recoil/impact tested the same as the standard scopes.
