Good day all,
I have a question about a shotgun.
Where would one find the origanator of Ajax Gun Co?
Are there makes and models or just a gunsmith company?
Thanks

AJAX was a name used by the CRESCENT FIREARMS COMPANY , a 1890 to 1930 or so company that made or imported hundreds of thousands of single shot shotguns and SXS shotguns of varying quality with any name your company or chain of stores wanted on the gun. What do you have? A single shot or side by side hammer or hammerless shotgun or something else? Most of these old shotguns had chambers that are shorter than the chambers of present day shotguns, they were made to fire the old style rolled crimp shot shells and even though a 2 3/4 in modern fold crimped shell will fit and fire , pressures can be dangerously high in these 100 year old or so guns.

Thanks for the info.
What would be the insurable worth of a SxS, double hammer breakaway shotgun. It's in fair condition for a 100 year old gun. There are no intentions of firing any through this gun. I'm unsure of the gauge due to the faded stamps on it but possibly 16 gauge or 10. Also there is what I believe to be a crown stamped on each barrel. What would the crown mean?
Thanks

Value is impossible to estimate without seeing it and giving it very close examination. But they are usually not worth more than a couple of hundreds dollars at best , if you can find someone who wants it at your price. But it may be something else,we don't know what it really is, we haven't seen it. The Crowns could be proof marks, the style of crown and if there are letters or other marks beside or around it. These can indicate if it is Belgian, French, German or British made or imported to there, then brought back here. Usually every firearm being imported to those countries has to be proofed , then if it leaves you can have a North American gun with a european proof mark which can confuse things a little.
