Arsenal mfg Bulgarian original 7.62x39 cal. double stack magazines. New polymer waffle pattern mags, with steel in the lips and lugs for added strength.

I have my doubts whether the plastic would be strong enough to support a pin. I think the "waffle" is there to give the plastic some ridgidity.

Pleanty of 30/5 steel mags around.

Thanks, I was wondering about that, Im still looking for the steel mags too, not much luck yet.

It's too bad there isn't source for these mags in Canada. They are known as some of the best AK mags going. No worries about the plastic supporting a pin.

In what way are they better than steel mags ?

I would be concerned about blocking them with a rivet, plastic cracks, especially when when it gets exposed to sunlight. Gluing a pice of plastic on the inside would probably do the trick, but it would be awkward to do.

I didn't say they are better than steel mags. I said that they are "some" of the best AK mags going. I'm sure you can put some steel mags in there as well.

I have a few different types of AK waffle mags, original Valmet and Bulgarian.

The Valmet is pinned with a rivet. The mag is extremely light, to the point where it is surprising. The rivet hole shows no wear/stress/cracking, etc.

The plastic used in the Bulgarians is very durable and it's alot thicker than the Valmet mag. The Bulgarian is a touch heavier than the Valmet mag (still lighter than steel) and it is built tough. Locks up rock solid as well. I would be much more concerned about the Valmet mag developing cracks than the Bulgarian.

There were a few Bulgarian mags for sale on the EE awhile back pinned with rivets. Perhaps the buyer can put his 2 cents in.

Too bad these mags aren't commonly available here but what else is new! Perhaps one of the companies importing P-mags and the like should bring in a few to gauge demand.

They are lighter than steel mags. If you're carrying 8 or 9 or them, it adds up. Alot of my Iraqis have upgraded to the 30rd plastic Bulgarians out of thier own pocket. Some run the 40rders on their rifle as well as a first mag.

Not the case at all Spencer, the Bulgarian waffle mags are top quality IMHO. I might even go so far as to say I prefer them. Just don't confuse the Bulgy's with any of the american waffle mags, the american mags are not anywhere near the quality of the Bulgy's...

I'd buy one - after all, what are our choices for AK mags in Canada? My SKS D has been running off baby 5 rounders since 2001 because the look cool factor can't justify slapping down $50 for a 30/5 rounder or $75 for a 40/5 rounder vs $13 for a 5 round shorty.

I'd be willing to purchase a 30/5 for $25 or so, but not any more. Maybe that's why there isn't any demand?

When 5 rounders costs $13, you're just paying an extra $37 per mag for a bubba'd normal capacity magazine to impress your friends.

If anyone knows where to get cheap 30 or 40/5 mags, drop me a line.

I image that's why no one else has brought them in,the margins on them would suck.
Guys don't seem to want to pay enough to make it worth the dealer's time.

Its kind of ridiculous though in the U.S. they pay as low as $9 for steel AK mags down there and up here they want $50 to $70 per mag up here, I can understand making profit but that is just nuts.

well bulgy polymer mags are about $20
First you pay for the mags and shipping to whoever is doing the pinning, then you pay them to pin them, then you pay the shipping to you, then the customs duties.
Then the dealer obviously not going through the hassle for free, needs something out of it.
For $35 per mag you make nothing.
Now $40-50 (depending on cost) it's somewhat worth your troubles, but guys ##### and moan about the price,So why bother?
