I'm a lefty shooter, but I do also shoot right handed. Probably the best thing about the VZ is the BHO means that you only need to firmly bump the charging handle rearward to chamber a round after a magazine change.
Here is what I do for an efficient magazine changes:
(first note that on the VZ if quick mag changes are important to you either an extended magazine release or modification to the trigger guard are a huge benefit, I use the latter)
Right handed:
1- keep your right hand on the pistol grip supporting the rifle aiming towards your target.
2- draw full magazine in the upright position with your thumb pointed upwards (not wrapped around the mag) so you fingers are holding the magazine.
3- bring the left hand (with mag in it) up to the side of the empty mag (still in the rifle).
4- put your thumb on the mag release and press it with your thumb while pressing on the mag with the meaty base of your thumb. The mag will release and push forward falling to the ground.
5- insert the top forward corner of the mag into the magwell.
6- push the mag fully forward in the mag well.
7- rotate the mag rearward till you have a positive click (mag is seated)
8- rotate the rifle while moving your left hand towards the charging handle (rotate clockwise and bring your hand under for optics mounted near the charging handle or opposite for irons or forward mounted optics)
9- firmly tap/bump the charging handle rearward to chamber the new round.
10- resume firing position and carry on emptying your new mag.
For Lefties its easier:
1- keep your left hand on the pistol grip supporting the rifle aiming towards your target.
2- draw full magazine in the upright position with your hand in whatever form pleases you
3- push on the mag release with your trigger finger and push the empty mag away with your right hand (holding full mag of course) and the mag will fall to the ground.
4- insert the top forward corner of the mag into the magwell.
5- push the mag fully forward in the mag well.
6- rotate the mag rearward till you have a positive click (mag is seated)
7- firmly tap/bump the charging handle rearward to chamber the new round with the blade of your right hand.
8- resume firing position and carry on emptying your new mag.
Any modification of this that works for you is even better.
