ak/vz scope mount locations - too far from eye ?

i was looking at the ak and vz scope mounts that are on the front grip, or instead of the front grip, looks cool, but how comfortable/useful is a scope so far away from where your head/eye is when shooting ? mounts that are attached to the side, more back are little more complicated, and in my case (cz858), the injection of an empty could be a problem.

what r your thoughts ? really interested in opinions from shooters with front grip sights, but not oko sights and such, i want to know how optics work in that location.

thank you.

You can get LER (long eye relief) scopes that work well that far forward. The only one I've used is on EESA's .50BMG. It seems to work well, a limited (magnified) FOV (field of view) when it's that far forward.

I've seen the side mount scope over ejection port setups on 858's before. No probs with brass hitting the scope or anything, I think the mount has a deflector.

i read about people making their own mounts, is there anything off the shelf that fits ? and possibly not permanently modifying the rifle ? thats a side mount scope i mean.

thanks

i've been investigating the same situation for sks and CZ858 so i have decided to try the scope towards the back over the top cover on my sks with a deflector , and a scope towards the front over the rear sight on my CZ858 on a scout mount , i have yet to get all the items together and try out on the range but thats the direction im heading.:D

Low SVD mounts work as well on an 858 as an SVD, they are over the centre of the bore. Great for a red dot, but for a scope an offset sidemount would be needed.

That mount looks intersting. How does it attach...D&T? Does it interfere with cleaning? Do you mean it works with a red dot because the sight doesn't project far enough forward to interfere with ejection? I think I like!

I think the bought mounts mostly involve either permanent alteration or replace the rear sight. If you have any skill whatsoever though, a guy in the stickied 858 thread made his own mount that looks great, isn't complicated, works well, and doesn't alter anything. Chekkit-out.
(sorry, but I'm too lazy today to hunt it down... I think it might be Kasat who did it)

curtton i have scout mounts on my cz and y sks-d they both work well even better if u have a laser bore sighter

I picked a mount off a cgn member all it is a pice of flat bar welded to the stock spacer and a screw threw the hole where the bottom handgard pin fits

no mod's you just have to pick up a new spacer 5 bucks

great idea, quick have it patented.:D

i decided to go with the scout mount over the rear sight. i got it from another cgn member this evening , the mount was made of aluminum , well designed and easy to mount , i like it. now i got to figure which works better at that forward position, red dot or scope?

i have 2 setups one for my vz and one for cz my vz has a scout mount with a laser on it great for quick pointing and my cz i am using a aimpoint and it works greatif u don't wanna waste ammo pick up a laser bore sighter
