I have some AK47 projects on the go and I wanted to reduce the ugly 18.5" bbl to a more reasonable 10-12". In one particular case I wanted to simply remove the front sight block altogethsr and replace the top cover with a rail cover (CAA or ULTIMAK)... for use with a Eotech or CMore reddot scope only.

Has anyone done this and if so .. do you miss the original FSB?

These are available at TSE ...

ULTIMAK rails are harder to find ...

Ilve also found these as an $$$$ option ....

I think that these would be cost-prohibitive for a rifle I cant shoot in Canada :(

Considering I cant make these any more PROHIBITED than they already are Im looking to spruce them up a bit.

the rail was a BERYL style system $69USD OUT OF STOCK.. and itsnt available yet ... KREBS has a high end system as well $250. Overkill for an AK47 IMHO

This is the product description:
This is a low rise scope mount. To install it, simply remove the rear site leaf and replace it with the mount. The back of the mount is mounted to the rear buttstock screw for a rock solid mount. CNC'd from a solid block of aluminum and anodized black.

Im still thinking that I can get away without a front sight block?

Are you sure about that?

Don't get your hacksaw out yet, cowboy. (I think you'll need a new barrel.)

Good point, but the bbl isnt prohibited here its the RIFLE as its 12.5 (not a 12.6 Prohib). Its named as a Prohib weather it has a 470mm bbl or a 202mm. Its an AK.

Unless someone knows something I dont I expect to be able to reduce the bbl length legally after re-vefication. I know itsbeen done here by others on te board.

There are next to new Norinco (polytech) bbls available in the US ... not exactly a route I want to go as Chinese receivers dont fir the nice new Bulgarian Krink parts ;(
