I've had an AK74 muzzle brake kicking around my parts bin for a number of years now. When I got a CZ858 a number of months ago I figured I should put it on there. As most of you know, the threads are the same except one it LH and the other is RH.

I toyed around with drilling it out and installing a helicoil, couldn't find one the right thread size. Thought about boring out the threads in the brake and machining a threaded collar to press into place.

Today I had a brain wave that allowed me to mount the brake on the rifle without spending any money. I simply bored out the threads and made a counter bore large enough to fit the CZ858 thread protector. I left about a .001" interference fit, and pressed it in. I thought about making the fit tighter, but I wanted to be able to adjust the brake so it was aligned properly.

I'll at some welds tomorrow to make everything thing permanent and then re-parkerize it after bead blasting.

Mounted on the rifle. Actually looks pretty good.

Not too bad for 10 minutes work

I was origonally going to buy an 858 and "tactical" with rails, folding stock, optics, etc. for 3 gun. I saw that sucker with the wood and just fell in love. It's going to stay bone stock except for a few minor changes.

I plan to add an AK47 type optic plate on the side next.

well, your stock and HG are the nicest i seen . i bot some from norseman and they dont look nothing like yours, sh*t i have to work on them to get it looking blond.

I did that with my 58 it was actually pretty easy for my smith to do. He had to champher the edges and grind a little off the bottom of the plate so it would then fit into the "Groove" in the side of the receiver. He then drilled and tapped it to the side of the gun. The only drawback is that it covered the trigger pins which wasn't too bad.... if the parts needed to be stripped all I had to do is remove the plate. I installed a PK-AS black/red dot on it. I LOVED that sight! Built like a tank and I really liked the small black dot inside a CQB circle. It had a back up red dot for low light. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a pure side mount and although it worked great I just didn't like the look of it. I eventually sold the gun and sight, but If I had to do it again I would go with a mount that put the rail over the top of receiver and go with a kobra or one of the newer PK series that mounts to a picatinny rail. I loved the PK-AS though. I only paid $250 for it and you just can't find any western optics to match the features for under $450.

As a side note - I had no problems with the setup returning to zero when I removed it for cleaning.

But now I'm onto new toys of a ploymer nature:dancingbanana:...

Looks good other than making the barrel look even longer . I went the other way . removed my front sight , Put the barreled receiver in a lathe & turned the barrel to move the sight back 3.25" reinstalled the front sight then had a fake muzzle brake made to slide over the barrel . Now looks like short barrel restricted model with a muzzle brake

There was a site that sold ak74 brakes threaded for the VZ. Does anyone have the link? (also, i can never seem to remember, is the vz rh or lh?)

I used to get brakes from them.Tried to do a group order for other nutz awhile back and they stopped shipping.

Precise innovations.
