why would cz's be non restricted and ak's prohib? i have a cz, and also want an ak. apparently, this is not possible as i am not able to buy prohib firearms. what is the difference between the two? i know they are not the same as far as the action, but they look the same. can anyone tell me the difference?

WHOOOAAAA. SORRY THERE CHIEF. GUESS WE'RE NOT ALL 'PERFECT.' guess i'll just go elsewhere from now on. thanks for your patience DAVE GP.

Don't get all bent out of shape. :) This is a great forum to find all kinds of gun information. There is bound to be a few reposts here and there. Speaking of which, I have been meaning to start a new thread on bear defence :D

I didn't mean to sound sharp - but varying versions of that question has almost been asked 45 times a week for the last year!

Just on bear defense there Ceska? Don't forget the ones about those Norinco shipments from Marstar, the one about the best cals for different tasks, the bullpup one and oh yea, my favourite one "who makes the cheapest 50cal?" :p:p:p

You gotta remember DaveGP, there might have been several threads on this subject but the search function on this site sucks a*s. Hey... haven't there been several threads on the quality of the search engine as well? lol

Ok Titleist, here's the scoop (yes again, but in the interest of being polite we'll do it once more), the laws in Canada don't make any sense. The AK47 and the true SA/VZ58 are prohibted, but the CZ2003 and the VZ858 are apparently different enough (because they were made of "surplus", "non assembled" parts) and were assembled as Semi only. Thus, they've been ruled as non-prohib. For the sake of cool-factor most people just call their CZ2003s VZ58s.

Welcome to the Forums btw :)

ok. thanks guys. i did do a search and came up with nothing that explained it. that is why i asked. i see here i did answer it myself with the action being different. sorry DAVEGP. our laws do suck.

To be honest here - I do like the Vz a bit better than the AK. Even the 858 with the longer barrel is a bit handier and comes on target quicker...just a personal 2 cents. The Czechs did have their stuff together for sure! No need to apologize T - and welcome to the board.

Yes it was done and it was behind the iron curtain. From what I was told close
30 000 rounds were fired by both firearms dipping barrels into water to cool them off....close to the 30 000 mark the AK's spring busted and VZ was still good to go.

Thats what was told :) cheers

The ak can shoot after being covered in sand and dirt (and apparently after being run over as well). I wonder how the vz would fare under these same conditions

Only one way to find out! :D

Keep us posted on the state of your gun after the tests! :p

so the cz's that we get over here, we're they used and cleaned up or are they new? i love mine. it is actually alot more accurate than i thought it would be. i am judging that with the ak as i heard they are not accurate at all. need some accessories though. just have to sell my .44 mag. to get them. i can only have so many toys.

I asked the same question on another board but no one knew.I finally found out
why the hell AK's are illegal in canada from wikapedia it was one 3 letter word
OKA.Just thank your lucky stars they didn't have shotguns and hunting rifles.
