Most outside of the TR/F Class world won't know this, but a Canadian Shooting Icon has passed away. Mr Alain Marion whom I had the pleasure of shooting with a bunch of years ago and went running with while on the bisley team in 1987 passed away last night. My info is second hand but it has been posted on the DCRA's facebook page and his daughter confirmed it.

3 time Queens Prize winner - 1 of 5 to have ever done that in the history of the competition

this is copied and pasted from his DCRA HOF bio:
Alain Marion C.M.
Alain Marion is still in the midst of an unprecedented shooting career. He has qualified a record 42 times for the Bisley Team, 40 times with 16th placing or better in the Bisley Aggregate. He has been the Canadian Fullbore Rifle Champion a record 12 times, placed second 6 times and placed third 3 times. He has won the Canadian Grand Aggregate a record 10 times, and placed second 3 times and placed third 6 times. He has won the Governor General’s Prize 5 times, and placed second 6 times and placed third twice.

Alain was the Champion of the Decade for the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. At Bisley, Alain has won the coveted Queen’s Prize three times, for which he is a record co-holder, in 1980, 1983 and 1996. He was second in 1972 and third in 1987 and 1990. He has qualified for sixteen Queen’s Prize Finals, an overseas record. He won the Bisley Grand Aggregate in 1990 and was second in 1973 and 1980. He was in the Top 50 of the Grand Aggregate sixteen times, which is an overseas record.

In the Commonwealth Games Fullbore Competition, he has won one Gold and two Silver Medals. He won a Bronze Medal during the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championship. Alain is a member of the Order of Canada in recognition of his superlative shooting accomplishments. He has also been inducted in the Greater Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame. Using the point system for selection to the DCRA Hall of Fame, Alain has accumulated a greater total than the combined points of the next three people following him.

One of his nicknames was HBR - the Human Bench Rest.

Sad day.

I also posted it in the target rifle forum Boltgun, was talking with my older brother yesterday when it came across my facebook feed and he confirmed it.
I never go into the General discussion forum however so did not know that Ganderite had posted it as well.
this should have been in every paper seeing how Mr. Marion was an Order of Canada recipient!
