Hey all.

Back in the willds of north western Alberta.

Asking you guys for info on the traits/characteristics for;

Deer

Elk

Moose

Cougars

Spend lots of time camping and hiking. Looking for characteristic traits about the above animals to avoid trouble while out and about. Deer and moose are also while driving around here, too.

If anyone has any stories, please feel free to add.

I often tend to see Deer/Moose in the ditches around Dusk, and just after Dusk (thats when they really start moving around it seems).
What do you want to know about Cougars? What you should know is that If you are stalked by a cougar, you won't know its there until it is on your back.

Deer are the same everywhere, watch the ditch. Moose and Elk are bigger and scarier. I've only come close to hitting on moose and dozens of deer, but usually manage to avoid them.

Now that you have moved to the real world, just enjoy them. I hunt NE of you and don't worry about the animals, just enjoy them.

Still haven't killed an elk, hope to one of these years. Cougar and wolf attacks are pretty rare, living in the country wouldn't bother me any.

According to the link that Norton gave, the above ,mentioned animals are in this general area. Plus we head south camping allot. Grizzlies are out just south of town where I will be shooting. A cougar was hit across the raod from our campground in 05. Right in the exact area I was nosing around the week before. Black bears were removed from the campground by trap in 04. 3 of em.

Speciffic area doesn't matter because they are all right in this area (GP) plus we travel.

By the lack of info, I guess I'm gonna have to do it the old fashioned way and buy a book.

Well for starters,.. I know for a fact that there are grizzlies south of town across the river and always have been,.. seen or not,.. they love to eat the cows on the grazing leases over the summer.

Cougers west of town, pipestone to Elmsworth area.

North of Debolt, black bears like you wouldn't believe.

As for me, while out camping and hiking,.. I shoot first and ask questions later,.. The only place I don't take any form of protection is Saskatoon Park

Off to watch the parade today,.. hopefully don't need any type of defense there :)
