Alberta Antelope Archery hunters at risk

It seems the Alberta government has screwed up the dates for archery and rifle seasons for Antelope this year. I got a letter in the mail yesterday advising that opening day of rifle season will coincide with last day of archery, so they advise to be "extra" careful before shooting at an antelope as it may in fact be a" decoy with an archer behind it".
It sure is nice to see the care in which the government here takes in setting dates for seasons and that they actually will take the time to warn those invovled to be careful not to shoot each other. I feel warm and fuzzy all over by this care and attention.

Yep, right out on the Trunk road. I would think the risk is even greater as antelope are spotted and scouted from longer distances.
 
This really should not be a problem. No one should be pulling the trigger unless they know for certian what they are shooting at.

But I guess in reality there are a few (hopefully very very few) who do not. When you think about it, if this is a really big concern, maybe it is time for a very strict, manditory hunter testing before issuing any hunting permits.

I think it was 4 years ago that a "experienced bush man" shot at and killed his two friends that were riding a quad in the Grande Prairie area. they wearing red IIRC.
There was a person shot in the Mcmuray area about 8 years ago that was wearing red coveralls while he and his bud were field dressing a deer.
Another about 20 years ago in the Plamondon area wearing red was shot by his cousin.
I try to stay away from people unless I REALLY know them as good , sensible
hunters who don't get ratled when they hear or see something.

I also wouldn't hunt with decoys unless I was on private land in archery only areas.

A decoy is a life size replica and certainly could be mistaken at three or four hundred yards by some of these cowboys. I would certainly understand someone walking or wearing red or blaze orange but shooting a decoy certainly can happen. As a matter a fact that is what the MNR use to nail poachers and illegal hunters every year. This is very irresponsible by MNR

Why is this irresponsible? They are catching poachers, they are doing it in a controlled manner, and IMO they are catching people who obviously dont verify their target very well before snapping the trigger.....please explain what you mean??
 
I dont think I would be out using a decoy to archery hunt on the opening day of antelope rifle...if any of you have hunted during the rifle season for antelope you would know that alot of hunters check their ethics at the door and its a free frawl...I had the rifle draw 3 yrs ago and the road warriors were an embarrasment, shots flying everywhere and at all distances.

We tried to do a few stalks on groups of antelopes and over and over again the vehicle would pull up on the road and guys would bail out and mess it up shooting from the road/out of the truck window.
