I've read lot's about coyote's being of different size and coulour in different regions. I'm wondering how our Alberta coyote's stack up? I've seen some that look pretty big, and shot some that seemed quite heavy, I'd guess in the 40lb range. If someone wanted to sell the hides, would Alberta coyote's be the type that are desirable?

Yes Alberta coyotes are desireable. When I was in the Northern Store in Inuvik, I was checking out the few furs that they had on display. One wolf two coyotes, a beaver and some rabbit fur for trim. After admiring them I asked a clerk if these where local, and he said that they all came from Alberta.
Within Alberta, the coyotes from the prairies, that are bleached out by UV from the sun, these pelts I am told are the most desireable, and sought out in the fur houses.

Coyotes vary quite a bit across their range as to colour. There are a lot more browns and reds on the Alberta side of the line, and more pales on the Saskatchewan side. Size is comparable. This is sort of a general average, with all colours occurring to some extent anywhere. Most 40 pound 'yotes turn into 30s on a fish scale. ;) I weighed a 52, it was big enough for my kids to use for a pony.
