So this year I am going to Alberta for 10 days elk hunting. I have quite a few friends from home (Nova Scotia) who now live in Alberta. I am going to try my luck at Elk hunting this year with one or 2 of them. As I have never been on a hunt like this is there any recommendations on what to bring, what I dont need to bring, anything at all. We plan on camping the entire hunt so I have made a list of freeze dried foods I will be ordering, Mountain House has caught my eye on the meals for the trip. The obvious things I will need staying in the woods for the better part of a week but is there anything people who have hunted like this before can chime in on. Thanks, Trevor.

I suppose it depends on what type of camping you like are you bringing a chainsaw and the kitchen sink or are you a light packer? Five things i cant live without on extended back country trip are a good knife ( I use a BK2 and an Ontario) a JetBoil/MSR system for my food, water filter depending on where im going, a spot on/ gps and a darn good med kit.

Edit: add some paracord and duct tape.

Vancouvebc gave some good advice.... Except I prefer my Coleman stove to a jetboil as it doesn't take those proprietary canisters..... If you aren't going to be moving camp around too much, bring a small cast iron frying pan.... If one of you get successful it's a really nice reward to be able to have a nice fresh piece of your harvest over a campfire....

Congrats on your hunt btw.... That is how I got my first elk..... I love camping hunts......

Bring clothes for all the different seasons. Depending on where you go, it can go from -20 to +15 in a day. You don't need to wear any orange crap out here either.
