I need your advice. Here's the situation-I live about an hour east of Edmonton(vegreville), and would really like to go elk hunting this year. I know there are some WMU's within a few hours drive that have general elk tags,at least for archery. I'd like to hunt an area that offers rifle as well, though I do archery hunt alot. I've lived in Alberta for about 5 years, and have wanted to go elk hunting from the start,so it's time. I'm not concerned about a big trophy, pretty much any elk will do for my first one. It would be nice if I could drive up to the area on weekend early on for scouting, and then go up for a week or so of actual hunting. If possible I'd like to hunt crown land where I can camp for the week. I don't have a quad, though I may be able to borrow one. If not, I guess I need to pack in,which would mean an area where I can hunt within a couple miles of the road. So, if you where in my location, with my situation, where would you look to be going? What's my best chance for success, and finding a fairly secluded place to do some hunting? I love getting away from everything and being secluded, so that's important as well.I realize that there's no way to totally get away from everyone in this area, and that's fine,so long as I don't have to camp nest to a highway or something! I shall await your advice.
