hey, just wondering if someone can give me some incite on hunting mountain goats and bighorn sheep in southern alberta. I currently live in northern alberta and me and my girlfriend have been looking and thinking bout going south for some awesome hunting!!

my question is if their are any general tags and permits that we can go buy or pick up for certain Hmu's or if everything for sheep and goats is all draw(which would suck a lot!) if their are areas that it can be done, what are those areas and where would I look online to get more information about it. THANKS!!!

I don’t live in AB and have never hunted goats or sheep but I’m pretty sure that the info you’re looking for will be in your provincial regs both in print and on your provincial website.

Mountain goat in Alberta is a once in a lifetime draw if you are lucky enough to draw it. Good luck with that. Start looking at BC because that's the only way you are likely going to hunt goat in Canada. If you look in the regs, there are lots of general hunting areas for Bighorn Sheep. Start doing your homework and you can be very successful hunting Bighorn in Alberta.

It's all right here, all that it takes is a few minutes of reading, that all hunters should do before they start hunting. http://www.albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs/

The regs aren't going to tell you that it may take 17+ years to get drawn for sheep in certain zones. Or the fact that they are implementing certain trail and road closures this year in southern alberta. Lots more reading and inquiring to do than what is in the regs. But I agree it is the best start to answering basic questions on hunting in a certain province.

Guys in AB can thank BC for their goat hunt. Apparently BC was going to issue more tags on their side of the divide if AB didn't.
