Who is in for a gopher hunt the first few weeks in May? I am thinking somewhere betwen Red Deer and Clairsholm, whatever area guys like the best is where we will go. Lets get this together guys.

Why wait until May? I was in Claresholm last week. There were more gophers out there than grass.
If I had stopped everytime I saw a gopher on the way down, it would have taken me about 2 days to get from Red Deer to Claresholm.
Got 200 between me and my FIL in about 2 hours with .22s

i am waiting for knee seurgy. should be verysoon. i was planning during recovery i am going to go to alberta to shoot gophers. if timing works out i might be heading their as well

snowing hard in sundre tonight, no green grass here yet another week or so til gopher shooting time here im thinking.

Are you on drugs, my friend? Gophers are not going to stay under just because they got snow. Last year I was shooting them when they were on top of 3 feet of snow. I'd be out tomorrow. They show up good against the snow.

I am in Edmonton. I have been popping them near Tofield and Ryley but I could make a trip south if gophers need shooting there too.

I take it this would be a Saturday afternoon type of thing? Do you have any good spots picked out or will we have to search around?

Is anyone going to be heading out tomorrow?

I'm in if it happens.
My thought is an extended weekend as best.
For those who cannot get a day off on short notice come out the 2 days.

In my case any time until the 10 of June is great. Then after the 25 of June is good too.

Being retired creates time to do what you want to do.

First item on the agenda is location. Some one who knows where a decent gopher population is located needs to volunteer.
Then date comes next.

I agree, we need a local that knows a good area. My vote is that everyone chip in so that the guide shoots ammo on us. Anyone want to volunteer?

I'm new to AB and I don't have any spots. But as long as the guide doesn't shoot .50cal at gophers I think that's a great plan.

What designates a decent spot?? More of a rhetorical question.

There also is the problem of too many guys. Therefore the list of who gets to do this will have to be fixed.
The Sask Gopher group has the problem of too many wannabe shooters. They are fortunate that they began limiting the numbers early on. Now those that don't show are booted off and a newbie gets in.

We should set it up that once someone agrees to "guide" the first 4 other guys to post are in. Should someone bail we will open up that spot. This keeps the people to a minimum (5 is a decent number including "guide").

That will work for me.

I am going monday for a 10 day exploration.
Any one who has ideas of where critters may hang out this spring can pm me. Maybe that will be be fruitful. Highly doubtful as almost all of Sk and Ab have adequate moisture conditions. Critters love drought.
