What would you do if you were legally hunting in an area and were harassed by a person to the point of leaving(not my choice) the area and ruining your day and your hunt? How far would you take it?

I believe the person doing the harassing is employed by ASRD (Alberta Sustainable Resource and Development). I have been in touch with them and awaiting a response.

This is a hypothetical question of course :D

I assume you are hunting out of Calgary? I worked for SRD in Edson and I assure you noone I worked with would EVER try to interfere with a LEGAL hunt.

Can you tell me for sure who signs the paychecks of those folks who are stationed at the fire lookouts across the mountains of Alberta? From what I could find it is SRD, but could be wrong. Never thought much about the subject before...

I have met quite a few of these folks and more than one of them that are downright hippy, granola munching, PETA supporting lunatics. :runaway:

If this is true, I'd start raising a ####storm of epic proportions, starting with the minister, my MLA, every bureaucrat I could get an address for... having other hunters do the same...

SRD is VERY reluctant to lay the "harassing a legal hunt" charge. I know because I've been there, including a time where a landowner came down with a gun and fired over our heads in order to get us off "his" section of the lake we were hunting (can't own navigable waters). The RCMP was willing to go after him on gun charges but we got nice for some reason and told them we didn't want him charged with that -- we did ask that he be warned though and they did "warn" him enough to make him cry. Instead we dealt with SRD and tried to get a "harassment" charge laid. CO (Rocky out of Wetaskiwin) tried to find every reason to not lay the charge and even intimated that we may have been in the wrong (we were floating in water the entire hunt). He even told us we should stick to hunting fields so as to avoid conflict. No charge laid and it left a very bad taste in my mouth.:jerkit:

Called Rocky the next season and told him we were going back. Rocky asked why we would do that unless it was to prove a point. We said that was exactly why we were doing it. We went and hunted with the old guy stomping around on the road behind us but he didn't interfere this time.

Next time, I will show no mercy and have the RCMP nail the bugger to the wall. The situation was tense enough that people with hotter heads may have shot him as he stood there 40 yards away and pointing a shotgun at us.

Those fire look-out personal have harrassed people who are on hikes in the middle of summer. I think it has something to do with the fact that (some of them) can't cope with people, hence their choice of work. Letter to Ted couldn't hurt.

What did this person do and what was the harassment? Hypothetically, that is :)

I am going to leave the details out for now until I find out all the info I need. Mostly just lots of yelling and someone basically claiming that the mountain and the animals on it, we were not allowed to hunt.

I had some choice words flyin, but someone wiser than I figured it time we leave the area and deal with it in other ways.

Me and my brother had a altercation in alberta after shooting a dear and dressing it.

A lady stopped and would not stop screaming how we killed one of gods creatures and that we could just as easily got meat from the local grocer.

We simply stated that this was a much cheaper alternative to food and that she is entitled to her opinion but we are not interested in it. She continued on for about 5 minutes the left since we totally blocked her out as though she was not even there.

How come you are always the lucky one to meet these folks?

Went through all the regs last night and still couldn't find anything. Will try to call Jim or Mark in Sundre tomorrow and get the scoop.

You know, this person might have made a good example of how slipperly the front face of that slope was......:pirate:

A guy is bound to run into a few strange ones when he spends lots of time in the outdoors. You have to know that a guy who can basically step on a grizzly cub while walking in the mountains must have something up his sleeve for attracting crazy situations. :runaway:

I've been checked by both Jim and Mark in the past year. Great guys. Happy to have them in my area.

Rocky out of Wetaskiwin on the other hand????

Disturbing a hunt is illegal isn't it? If someone is commiting a crime against you, then take it as far as you can. Someone has to teach them.

Good luck with sorting out this matter, let us know when you have things all tied up. Would like to know what to do ina situation such as his.
