Alberta Hunting Course: Online!

I'm a little torn upon receiving this news; On one hand, it's nice to have the education course readily accessible just about anywhere to get people out there hunting, but I'm not sure it's the greatest idea having them pass the course 'boaterexams.com style'.

This convenient program allows you to train at your own pace, from any computer equiped with an internet connection. Included in the program are 12 training modules, progress quizzes, and a final exam. Once a user has met the minimum exam criteria, they will receive their certificate from AHIEA by mail.

Completed Course Online

Woohoo! Did the final exam online yesterday and got 99/100. Sure would be nice to know what I got wrong since it's under the Legal/Regulations section :eek:. Hopefully I'll figure it out before it becomes important!

The course is laid out very well online, and each section has a quiz so you can test your knowledge. The final exam is NOT made up of exactly the same questions, so it's not just a matter of memorizing the answers to the quizzes, although there is certainly overlap in the material covered.

For the convenience, it's definately worth the $50, especially if you're not close to a place that can do the testing. My card will be mailed to me within 30 days.

ETA: There are some typos in the online material that I find a little careless. I read about "pocking", "knocking" and finally "nocking" an arrow for example. I did have the book already though, and I like reading hard copies of stuff vs. online. I enjoyed reading the book, and read a lot of it a couple times, especially the waterfowl identification part. I found it easier to read the descriptions while being able to look at the pictures in the book instead of flipping back and forth between slides offered online. Also, the only material missing from online comes from the 2007 Regulations, although you can figure out the stuff you need to know from the quizzes anyway, so it's not a big deal. Of course, YMMV.

Oh, and you're certainly welcome Pharoah. I don't know how long the $50 introductory rate is supposed to last, as my original post is from the 15 of October, but hopefully the deal is still on. If not, I believe the price will go up to $60, which is still not terrible considering the convenience.
