Alberta Hunting Regs Question

Wondering if someone could help me out here. Me and my dad are having a bit of a disagreement about the cartridges you are allowed to hunt with here. He swears up and down that you can't hunt big game with a cartridge having a case length of less than 2 1/2"..............I seem to recall reading this or something similar in my hunter's ed class years ago (about 12 or so) but I can't find it anywhere in the regulations. The issue here is that I was looking at getting a .44 rem mag lever gun for a brush gun for hunting.

All I can find in the way of caliber restrictions is nothing less than .23 caliber or .410 guage and under.

So, is it gonna be legal for me to load up a .44 or .357 mag lever action for pushing through the willows? Is the case length restriction an old regulation that no longer applies or just complete bs?

Flinter is right, this case length restriction was in place for a long time. But now it's gone.
IIRC only the NWT hunting regulations has this case overall rule for big game hunting.

Gone. Got here 8 years ago. I like to hunt dense cover with a Remington 799 in 7.62x39mm. Was illegal the first year, legal ever since.

When this regulation was in place what was the limit? Was it 2.5"? If so would that not rule out a bunch of adequate cartridges? .308 for example.

I think I remember the case length being 1.75" minimum.
It ruled out being able to use 7.62 x 39 with its case length of 1.52" or whatever it actually is.

1.75" was the minimum length at the time. The early design 6x47 [222 Rem Mag necked up] was just long enough and had enough diameter to be legal in Alta. Eagleye.

I had a look at my old saved Alberta hunting regulations.
The obsolete rule was:
- ammunition of less than .23 calibre or having an empty cartrige case measuring less than 1.75 inches (44mm) in length.
