AISTA Provincial Championship 2008
The Alberta International Style Trapshooting Association held its championship match this past weekend (September 5th, 6th and 7th) in Hinton. Due to the lack of an available bunker, the match this year was shot over an automatic trap (also called wobble, or continental trap). The speed and angles of the birds were closely matched to that of a bunker, and all competitors found the targets to be challenging.
Many kudos and thanks are owed to the Hinton Fish and Game Association. The tremendous amount of work they put in to install the trap machine and build up a shooting stage was appreciated by all. Fantastic job, an enormous effort!
The match was well attended with a good many of Alberta's International trap shooters present, as well as a small contingent from Saskatchewan who drove all that way to keep things honest and provide a little extra competition. Thanks, guys.
There were A and B class shooters, women and juniors, and a recreational class. Competitors ran from a federally funded, carded athlete to a rank novice at his first shoot. Everyone had a great time, even the food was first rate.
Yours truly had a great weekend. I made the finals, did not win but placed high enough to celebrate. I can still shoot well enough to massage my ego.
On to the pics:
Not all International trap shooters are old men!
It's a family affair.
Two of the best.
A study in concentration.
It's fun to study the different shooting styles.
The finals for men, women and juniors were shot with flash targets.
Here you can see the layout of the range.
Flash targets are fun!
We shot in sun, cloud, rain and wind - typical Alberta weather.
A flash target close - up.
If you live within driving distance of Hinton you would be a fool not to take advantage of this range. As well as the automatic trap, there is ATA trap, a 500 yard rifle range and other rifle / pistol ranges. I hear that there are plans for an indoor archery range next!
So, thanks again to the Hinton Fish and Game Association for their warm and welcoming attitude, their hard work and an excellent shoot that was enjoyed by all.
