Alberta LTATT question- new firearm

The last restricted I had purchased, I had arranged an ATT from the dealer (who also happens to be a gunsmith and approved range) to my residence with a two day window. As time has gone by, and after looking at my LTATT, it allows me transport to/from approved ranges, gunsmiths and border crossings and it is not firearm specific.

I realize logic doesn't always win, but if I were to purchase another restricted from this same place and once transfer approved and have the transfer notification in hand, would I be able to transport this home using my LTATT?

I tried searching but didn't notice the same scenario. I know, it seems to simple and logical to be true.

Hoping someone has the answer. Thanks.

im a total newbie but i don't think it works this way. I think it is FROM your home to the gunsmith and back, don't think you could LEGALLY use your LTATT like that. I think you need a STATT to get the new gun home, then your LTATT would take over if you wanted to bring it to the range.. Anyone feel free to correct me but i think that is how it works.

Your LTATT covers transport from your home to the range. You need a STATT to transport from store inventory to your home.

It is also an approved range (which also provides lockers)... Would be no different than using the range and then going home, no?

If your LTATT says, ".....all registered, restricted and non-restricteds" and
"..... all approved gun ranges in Ontario" then I'd bet you're good to go.

I've had various similar questions for the ACFO over the years, and indeed, they insist on a separate ATT for a new purchase. I suppose it helps them set up the new storage address, but you'd think the transfer would do that! Anyways, i think the only legal loophole is if your range is the same address as the dealer... or perhaps if your dealer meets you at the range. That would be a hard one for them to win with, but then... they are the government. I know if you ask them they'll want a separate att. I suppose they can hire more staff that way. (and effectively harass, I mean make your life more difficult, I mean keep you safer that way)

edit: ah, it is an approved range... didn't notice that post... anyways, doesn't change anything.

Thanks everyone, I would imagine that I'm not the first to think of it. I'm sure if i ask the dealer/gunsmith/range they will give me the same answer as everyone here has. Sounds like a bit of a make work project for the CFO office. Nothing like an authority on top of another (exactly the same) authority... Just because. Makes for a warm feeling deep down when I do my tax return.

Depends which CFO office you talk to, when I called Alberta CFO office they said need new ATT on every new restricted and they are added to your LTATT at the same time so you are all good to go, when I called and got routed to BC CFO office they said the same except that to remove restriced from your home you need to wait untill the official transfer comes in the mail.

My experience, FWIW, when I got my first restricted, they told me I needed a STATT to bring it home, UNLESS it was delivered to my house (which it was, so no STATT required). Then they issued me my LTATT which covers ANY restricted firearm I own OR borrow to/from the range/gunsmith/border crossing and home. When I got my second restricted (again, to my house), I didn't need a new ATT (short or long term) because my ATT covers any restricted in my posession.

However, when I moved about a month later, they did issue me a STATT for a specific day to move my firearms to my new address (lest they jump out of their cases, and attack anyone en route f:P:2: ), and at the same time issued me a new LTATT for my new address.

And that's of course, Alberta-specific. Your mileage may vary outside of Alberta.

More pointless paperwork from your friends at the CFC! :p

yep same thing here. i bought my 1st restricted at a local shop last march got my statt and tatt at the same time. went directly to the range, the gun broke and i went right back to the dealer. they returned it and gave me a new one off the shefl, did the trasfer of teh broken one back to them and transferered the new one back to me and still had to get a statt for the new one. this was all in teh same day. btw the new one has over 6000 rounds through it now without a hiccup. sometimes you just get a bad apple.

it took me 5 minutes to get my statt and less than an hour to get my ltatt. From what i've heard even in AB that's prety damn fast. I've been lucky though. I sold a rifle to one guy and bought a handgun on the ee 2 weeks ago and when i called up to initiate and complete the trasfers(1 in am 1 in pm) i had NO time on hold. it took longer to listen to the press 1 for english crap than it did once i had a human on the line.

I'm NOT condoning anything illegal but the way i see it the new statt for new gun beurocracy is crap. if you have a vaid LTATT and the dealer will let you walk out of the store then go nuts.

Hey Thanks everyone for the great feedback. It was worth asking as the LTATT langauge seems to support it- it is an approved range, but it appears that the CFO office "might" be regulating by opinion... Not worth the grief however.
