I understand that, provided there is no area-specific rule against it, hunting (including small game) is allowed in Alberta Natural Areas. That being said, would it be permissible to target shoot with non-restricteds in Natural areas? I'm talking about setting up a few cans and doing some plinking. My Crown Land access is drying up because of seasonal grazing usage (farmers have the legal right to deny access to Crown Land they've leased for grazing when there's livestock on it. Most prairie Crown land in Alberta is leased for grazing). I know of a good Natural Area around here that's a quarter section, but I don't want to get busted by a Fish and Wildlife officer for doing some harmless plinking with .223 or 7.62x39. Anyone do this in NAs? Anyone know for sure if you can?

Just so it's stated. I always make a point to take out exactly what I've brought in (including targets and shell casings/hulls).

I am actually not sure who is looking after Natural areas now. Was Lands and then Parks and then Lands again I think. I have seen where "Volunteer Stewards" had put up their own signs on "their" natural areas that said "NO HUNTING" but these have no force in law.

I reckon you first have to find out who in Gov't is administrating them and ask at them.

Hi Duffy, thanks for your reply.
Can't seem to get in contact with a F & W Officer for this area. Looking at the Alberta parks website shows them as the administrative contact for the NAs. I can't see why it would be illegal, if you can fire a shot in them hunting you should be able to fire a shot plinking. Unless some farmer that lives by complains about noise.
Any more opinions?
