I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this but here I go. Is there any one in Alberta willing to take two experienced white tail hunters from Quebec out for a hunt. We were not drawn in Saskatchewan this year and are feeling sick about missing a western white tail hunt. Pm me if this is something you would consider doing.
Thank you in advance
Danny

Go to Manitoba, you don't require a guide, hunter host or local resident to accompany you. Well, deer numbers are down in Manitoba, best to leave this province bounce back to greater populations. Case in point, that's why I did not apply for Saskatchewan whitetail this year, population percentages are at an all time low......hint, hint.

You are right about the smaller head count in the deer population but coming from Quebec, I have never seen that many shooter bucks in the 30 years hunting in Quebec. My friend in Saskatchewan is not taking a white-tail either this year. They should open the mule deer hunt to Canadian residents or coyote hunting because there are plenty of both around.

There is are no mule deer left here either. The politicians finally let the wardens reduce the number of mule deer tags this year and its still not enough. Just because you see a mule deer on the side of a highway near a small town doesn't mean that there are to many of them. We have very very low numbers of mule deer in their home ranges. As for coyotes they are at an all time low because of the lack of game, they have nothing to eat. This is all in my area anyway.

Very sad indeed to hear that the mule-deer and the coyote numbers are down as well. It just seems improbable because of what I witnessed hunting there for the past 5 years. The mulie easily out numbered the white-tail and coyote's everywhere.

At our big wildlife meeting and banquet in january the results of our zones herd count was presented and it was estimated that we lost around 90% of our deer population in the last 3 years. I have not seen a baby antelope this year and in the 90's I could take you for a drive in the afternoon and show you no less than 2500 antelope. During the same drive in the nineties we would see over 400 mule deer and countless partridge and sharptail. I saw my first sharptail of the year last night while baling and only one covey of partridge this year containing two adults and three young. It is rather depressing.

By all appearances our deer numbers are bouncing back OK.
4 years ago the deep snow with the hard crust weakened them enough to make them easy prey for the coyotes.
Here's a thought. Look into a possible elk cull on 'The Block' (Armed Forces Base Suffield). It's coming guys, the numbers are est at 7000-9000.
They are dropping in trapped wolves, dozen pair to start.
There are some unbelievable world class animals out there. I've seen the herds and they are crazy.
Friend down the road owns an abattoir and has had the gov't talk to him about it.
It's coming, pay attention

I've hunted Saskatchewan as a Resident Canadian every year for whitetail since 1988, the first 10 years in the Great Sand Hills where I witnessed seeing many monster mule deer. The Saskatchewan government is on track, and I totally agree with them, not to allow out of province/country hunters to hunt their mule deer. BTW, I've only harvested about 8 to 10 bucks in all those years hunting in Saskatchewan...........I stick to a 160 B&C minimum. Getting back to your thread, Alberta has suffered winter kill over the recent years, however there are pockets here and there that have healthy populations and quality bucks. Good luck finding a hunter host!
