A buddy of mine got both these bucks this year; we're not even close to the rut, when the BIG boys show up. I think 2010 is gonna see some MEGA bucks shot around these parts. Another guy I know of shot a 191" gross that nets in the 180's.

Storys:
The 171" buck was lying bedded in long grass, in a cutblock. It was spotted by the guy's wife, as they were driving along in a side-by-side. He wanted her to shoot it, she said, "Nah, you shoot it..."
He had no idea it was that big. The outside spread is 25", it's got 6-7/8" mass on the beams, 2 cool sticker points, and you can tell that it was a really big mature buck.
This is one of those deer that you hear about, where the score doesn't do the rack justice.

The 188" buck was killed on the highway and someone, probably the guy that hit it, had dragged it off the road into the ditch. So my buddy saw it lying there and decided to check it out. Apparently it had been there a day or two as it absolutely stunk.
He went and got the necessary permit to recover the rack and then brought it home. But he needs to get a cape for it, as the cape was ruined.

The buck on the left is 188" gross typical. The buck on the right is 171" gross with about a 6" brow tine snapped off.

This buck was a young deer, it's got amazing tine lenth. It would have been an absolute freak if it had grown up a bit.
