Talked to a clerk at Cabelas today and apparently Federal has stopped all civilian sales of primers for 2 years. What's out there now is it. I'm assuming replacing US ammo sent to Ukraine is a priority.

I don't believe this an accurate interpretation of the situation. I think the reality is Vista has stopped taking new orders because they have a ~2 year backlog. Production is continuing and primers will still be delivered non-stop, as fast as they can make them to try to clear the backlog.
 
things will ease, Hornady is opening their own primer plant in the near future, once they stock pile enough for ammo production they plan to sell on the open market, that's also going to relieve some of the pressure on both CCI and Federal
 
Well, for whatever reason stock up if you use them and can find some. They work well for me.
100k cases of ammo to Ukraine...might be a factor as that market get priority. He said the letter used "civilian market"
 
Got nothing to do with Ukraine, stoppages we long before the war.

Thee problem was the massive LEO @ NATO contracts that need to be filled. They are 2 years backlogged because of that.

Also doesn’t help when ammo sales is through the roof since Biden took over and 25+ million new USA gun owners .
 
Spoke with a gun shop owner and he said they recieved N email from Vista Outdoors stating there will be no more primers for this year and possibly into early 2023. I don't see a reason for them not be honest, and his shelves were bare of primers- and he was unsure if he would even see any of his current order of primers.
 
Trying to find primers right now is like looking for diamonds on a sandy beach. One owner/retailer told me he has no idea at all if his primer order will be filled in 2022 but he is hopeful for the forth quarter. Given the worst possible news of not this year but maybe by the forth quarter supply will improve...perhaps wishful thinking on his part.

I have booking orders for over a million primers 18 months old that haven’t been fulfilled yet.

Powder is getting bad too, jut not so bad yet.
 
Well NATO countries are supplying Ukraine so indirectly this could be part of the future shortage. I agree the shortage was there before, that's why I stocked up big time a year ago before Trump was trounced and the Repubes went into panic mode...happens during every Dem presidency.

That should be about $300k when you do see them...
