Hey guys, for those of you with an Alfa please post a picture of the revolver with the hammer cocked if you can. With the wood grip on the 9mm one we have, (stippled) it hits the grip before it locks back. Thanks.

I think you need pictures of folks that have the same grips. Not much point in my posting a picture of the stock rubber grip with the hammer cocked. To aid in knowing which grips you have why not post a picture of YOUR gun and grips.

Assuming the grips fit well in all other ways since it's wood just trim it a little so it works.

I too have heard of this ,needs to be trimmed ,filed or sanded.

I have the Walnut stippled grips on the way from Rustywood trading co. , should be here next week ,so I guess I will see for myself.

Planning on posting pictures soon. This is my fathers gun and he is in Jamaica on holidays for a few more days.

Options,

Bob the hammer. ( I wouldn't and neither should you) :)
Call who ever you bought the grips and negotiate an exchange, return or compensation for having to fit and re-finish the grips.

If your father likes the fit and feel of the grips then I would simply file away or lightly Dremel away a little of the wood, touch the spot with a coat or two of urethane varnish and call it a day. Another suitable tool would be some medium them fine sandpaper wrapped around a small stick that cuts away a few thou of clearance. It's such a simple bit of fixing that it just doesn't warrant an exchange. Doing the fix needed would take less time and less effort then mailing the grips back. Especially if the grips feel great other than this little issue. Chances are excellent that the next set would fit with the same obstruction anyway.

Which is why you should let who ever you bought the grips from know that they don't fit.... that way they can pass the information up the chain to who ever is making the grips. The contour in that area should ideally match the hammer's contour for aesthetics. Another improvement would be a bit more of a beaver tail so that you could take a high grip without getting pinched by the hammer.

I agree with BC about fixing it your self if you are handy with tools and have something to refinish with.... but I also understand that not everybody has an interest in fixing new products or a supply of tools and clear coats.

Looking at your picture, it appears that the hammer is locked back and just barely touching? Perhaps you can just compress the wood fibre a bit to give you the clearance you need that way there would be no refinishing. Humidity changes may swell the compressed fiber down the road though....

Guys, I did call RW and he said I could exchange them. Not sure on who's dime. I do know if I touch these at all they will not warranty. Ask me how I know. (sanded 1/64 off of a faulty moon clip) I can sand the grips down for sure.
Other owners of these grips have this problem? With extremely small gloves on the hammer would not stay cocked, so it needs 1/8" clearance in my books.

What happened with the moon clips? I have a few that seem out of spec but I need to shoot the gun some more with different ammo to be sure.
I also ordered a different wood grip when I ordered from Rusty. The wood grips are on the "cheap" side as far as checkering and over all fit I'd say. The stock rubber grips are so nice in my hands that I never bothered to even mount the wood ones.

Since you sound "handy" LH, I'd go full custom and shape the grips to your dad's hand while you tune up the hammer issue and then refinish.... :)

What do small gloves have to do with the hammer issue?

If you touch the moon clip in any way you will not have warranty on the moon clip, even if you did not wreck it or bend it. Not sure if the clips are stamped or what but one of mine will not sit deep enough into the cylinder, well depends on what position it sits, example 1 o'clock fits, 2 o'clock does not let you close the cylinder.(loaded) The same will apply to the grip. The wood grip does feel nice in the hand, much better than the stock ones, my opinion of course.
The light glove would just barely get trapped between the hammer and grip.
What is the finish on the grip do you think?

Not sure but likely a Polyurethane coating. You could experiment on the inside of the grips for color matching.
Is the grip a tight fit on the frame?

I bought a bunch of moonclips and they are not all the same that's for sure. If there is a known issue with consistency of the specs on the clips they should be quick to replace regardless of what the customer may have tried on their own.
Pretty cheap part to make and easy to ship.

The grip is probably stained and clear coated with something like Varathane. The clear is easy to retouch but if it is stained, which it looks like it is, you'll have a noticeable blemish. You could try your luck finding a stain that would blend well with what the factory used.

Here's a pic of my 9261 with the stippled walnut grips. I'd say I have ~ 1/16" clearance, and have no problems with setting the hammer back for SA.

Thanks VanMan, I have a side picture coming and will post it. Yours looks better. If RW will pay shipping both ways, I will send it off. I could also sand all the smooth areas of the grip and redo the finish.

Common fitting problem, known to exist for some time now. As mentioned u can either lightly sand or contact the distributor(Blue Line) for proper grips.
