Alfa-Proj V.S Taurus

Hi all,
I am wondering if someone has some recommendations as to a great over all .22 revolver for durability, price and accuracy. I'd love a smith model 17 but their prices are a bit high for me...
I'm kind of stuck between the Alfa proj alloy and the taurus .22 revolvers.

Anybody out there have an alloy alfa proj that can tell me how the fit finish and durability are?

I'm curious also. For an inexpensive starter revolver I'd be interested in the Alfa proj as long as it's reliable.

The things I hear about Taurus... not so great.
 
I'm leaning towards the alfa since the Czechs always seem to have high quality stuff. The alloy frame is the only thing I'm not sure about, although they are supposed to have steel inserts at all the wear points and for a .22 the frame strength is not much of an issue.

For just over $500 (instead of $419 for the alloy frame) you can get the .22 Alfa with a steel frame. That's still way cheaper than a S&W.
 
I'd stay away from Taurus unless you're buying a revolver from their "Raging" line. The Raging Bull's and Judge's are great, but quality control takes a nose dive with the lesser models.
 
I bought the Alfa 6" alloy frame .22lr. I have put about 500 rounds threw it. It's really fun to shoot and the accuracy is impressive. The trigger is adjustable and the grips aren't bad,I have big hands and it fits my hand pretty well. I can shoot 3-4" groups at 25 yards, and 2-3" at 15 yards. I've never shot a Taurus but I picked up the Alfa for just under $400 shipped. I really enjoy shooting it. It always comes with me to the range. I found Winchester ammo doesn't fit in the cylinder but everything else fits and goes bang. It's just a straight up fun gun to shoot.

How is the balance of the gun with the 6" barrel? Is the quality of finish good?

I never handled the steel version to compare, but it balances nice and is pretty easy to acquire the sights, my sights are just black on black but still easy to see. I found it shoots a little high but nothing to crazy. Finish is nice and seems durable, I dropped it on my garage floor and not a scratch came if it. I noticed a couple little dings on the cylinder probably from handling from the factory. The stock grips are just rubber but I was going to replace them eventually with some wood ones. This is the first revolver and only .22lr pistol I have owned but I've shot many over the years. I am very pleased with this gun, especially at the price. I am going to pick up the .357 4" model soon. My wife also loves shooting this gun as well. It shoots any .22lr ammo that would fit. One of the reasons I went with a this gun over a GSG or M&P 22 is its not picky with ammo. I would recommend this gun to anyone.
