Hi guys....brand new to this rifle, and now looking for a versatile scope at a reasonable price that would work out to about 100yds (or more)....any comments on Nikon's prostaff 22 scope? All suggestions welcome.....eventually would like to add red dot and light.
Thanks

Bushnell Banner

3.5-10x 36mm - Multi-X

17 Super Banner is designed specifically for .17 HMR and .22 rifles.

  • Adjustable objective
  • BDC (Bullet Drop Compensator)
  • Designed for .17 HMR and .22 rifles

For a .22 this is the ideal scope IMO, I have two and they are great.

I have a 4-12 banner on my 10/22 with the adjustable objective on weaver rings.
As a back up i have a set of williams fire sights. I find the sights are as good as any red dot and having the scope on quck detachable rings it goes back on easily and only takes a few shots to get on target.
I like the scope since its reasonably priced service is available here and its paralax adjustable to 10 yrds at 12 power

I put a Bushnell AR 22 (2-7x32) scope on mine. $180, side parallax adjustment, ballistic reticle that works well to 125 yds.
^^^This, except mine was a lot less than $180, I seem to remember they were on sale for $129 after rebate recently, however even if the current price is $180, the scope is still a good value.

Thanks to everyone for the input...another question I have is would I be able to mount both a scope and a red dot on the picattiny rail at the same time? If not, is there a quick release mount that would enable me to switch between the two? And finally, is there such a thing a a red dot sight that also magnifies? Sorry if this is a basic question....I am brand new to all this.
Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the input....done a bit of research as a result of everyone's suggestions and I'm thinking of going with the Vortex Strike Eagle1-6x24. My question is, the research I've done suggests this scope is suited to a 556 round.....would it be usable on a .22LR?
Thank you.

Thank you.

I don't know specifics about the Vortex you are considering, but if there are hash marks calibrated to BDC (bullet drop compensation) for 556 then obviously 22lr will behave differently.

The big thing with scoping any 22lr is to consider parallax settings. Most center fire scopes, unless they have adjustable objectives or side parallax adjustment knobs, are set for 100yards. Unless you are doing most of your 22lr shooting at that range, a magnified center fire scope will frustrate you. I don't do much 22lr shooting beyond 50 yards, especially with my "tactical" 10/22, so I prefer rimfire scopes which feature parallax settings to approx 50 yards or the ability to adjust parallax to lower ranges. Parallax becomes a bigger issue when you have magnification on a scope.

I'd go with a low power variable with a straight tube... 1" or 30mm... there are plenty in the 1-4X, 1.5-5X, 1-6X range.
