Allow me to pick your brain...RUBBER bandoliers?

I came across something that I'd never seen before...sealed rubber bandoliers (apparently) containing 7.62 x 51...and was told they were Canadian? I've never in my life seen rubber bandoliers, let alone CF ones. Is the info true? If so, is there any collector value over and above non-bandolier ammo, or just shoot it? :)

Thanks all!

just shoot it, it's simply a means to transport them in a waterproof manner. not true bandoliers as they can't be reused.

The switch was sometime during the change over from DA (Dominion Arsenals) to IVI (Investisments Valcartier Incorporee). I'd speculate early to mid 1960s.

Just from your description, I'm going to fill in the picture. You have a couple of modernistic looking bandoleers of battle ammo. Don't open it! It is waterproof and sealed against the atmosphere as is. DA ammo has a very good reputation for consistency and reliability. Quite the opposite of IVI!

Your bandoleer is about 2' feet long plus the loose tapes. There are 5 or 6 little green rubber cups with a thumb tab heated sealed to a thin fabric tape. There might even be a lot number punched in the tape. Hmmm?

I bought several of these from a local gun show and knew they'd been compromised. It's all 1961 DA 7.62 and almost all of it had a heavy coating of green corrosion on all the cases and bullets. It wipes off cleanly with a bit of G96 leaving a bit of tarnish on the tip, the brass is spotless afterwards though. I haven't fired any of it yet and I discarded all of the bandoleers.

I believe British RG ammo came packed similarly and had the same moisture intrusion issues. Unless you are keeping it for collection purposes I would recommend opening the bandoleers and checking for surface corrosion. Leaving it for too long can eventually render the ammo unsafe to shoot.
