It was a pretty cool evening.
I got to the farm (ready for a deer hunt) about 6:30pm and started walking toward a back field when I spotted a coyote in the hay field mousing (about 120 yds out) ... I took cover and tried some lip squeaks to get him closer but he would not have any of it, he kept mousing. After a few minutes he walked away about 75 yds further, looked like he caught a mouse and bedded down... I thought I'd make my way around the bush, climb my tree stand and see if I can call him from there (try calling from a different location). I get to my stand, climb up but don't see him. Decide to wait it out for my original game, a deer..... but after 10 minutes I see this coyote again, I try and get him to come closer but no luck, he turns and goes the other way and beds down again. After a few minutes of watching him bedding down by the corn about 300yds way...I can't stand it anymore so I decide to forgo the deer hunt and try and sneak up on him....

I took the long way around but finally managed to start (reached)along the row of corn toward him. The wind wasn't as strong/loud as I hoped so I had to get out of the corn (I was making too much noise) and just still hunt slowly along the edge (where hay field meets the corn). Not sure if he was still there or not but figured with the noise I am making I wouldn't be able to get closer than 40 yds... Sure enough as I near where I think he is, he stands... I get my bow up, take the safety off, but I am too shaky... I drop down on one knee but can only see the top of his head through the hay. I stand up again, put the 40 yd marker on him and take the shot. I hear nothing and see the coyote trot away... He stops about 80yds out and he just looks at me for a minute before disappearing into the corn...

A little confused on what just took place so I begin to process what just happened..............................Well most likely I shot over his back because I paced it off and it was only 32 yds away...I guess I had that 40 yds in my head on the way in and forgot to double check the distance.....(mind froze on that number)

No kill but a pretty cool experience sneaking up so close on a coyote :) ...

A few pics for reference....
