alpen riflescopes

I have compared their binoculars to various high end names. Swarvarski was the only one that was clearer and brighter but at 6x the price.
I don't see the need for a scope 3x the price of the gun either and their customer service was amazing when I had questions about the binoculars.
I agree a lot of Chinese stuff is junk but not all of it

I was somewhere between surprised and shocked when I saw the price of the Kodiak. I don't have any hands on experience but the Alpen Rainier spotting scope shows up and performs well in most comparisons but at about $1,200 USD I would expect it to perform well. I have no idea why a company that gets good reviews on their Spotters and Binos would try to sell a rifle scope for 1/10th the price. And from looking at the specs you're paying about $300 more just for side focus. It doesn't make sense, corners will have been cut. The glass can't possibly be the quality you're used to in their binos and spotters.

A $150usd scope will be just that, hard to be more. I have some fullfield II scopes for my rifles and they work, they hold zero and don't shift POI with magnification change. That's about all you can ask in this price range.

Chinese scopes are garbage, no matter who puts their name on it....
You can get a decent US made (Redfield Revolution) or Japanese made (Bushnell Elite) starting around $230.
Philippines scopes are decent as well but a step down from US/Japan...Nikon, Burris, Redfield Revenge, all start around $150.
Next down the list is Korea, Bushnell Trophy line and a few others made there, start a bit over $100.
China is the bottom of the barrel, and there is no need to buy that garbage when there are much better scopes CHEAPER these days. If you only need a $50 scope for a .22 then sure, a Simmons 22mag will fit the bill. But a $150-$500 Chinese scope will be just as good (or just as crappy) as the $50 Chinese scope.
