What does everyone think of Alpen scopes? I have the opportunity to buy a rifle with a Alpen Apex scope mounted on it. I know they're made in China but they seem to be well regarded from what I can tell.

The $220 MSRP on the scope seems to indicate it should be in the same league as the Bushnell Elite 3200 at least.

What do y'all think?

This is the only review I could find of the thing:

It's only one opinion though.

It depends, what rifle is it on and how much does the seller want? Personally, I wouldn't touch made in China optics unless it was going on a .22lr.

They give them a German sounding name to make folks think they are of German Manu. or at least German quality, while being turned out for .50 cents in China....I'd steer clear of them...IMHO

For what it's worth: I checked the reviewer's articles on the website, and he has "reviewed" three scopes - magically all Alpen brand. To me, this suggests that the reviews may not be all that objective (pardon the pun.)

I'm not criticizing the scope, as I have not even seen it. Perhaps that's the key here - you have to see them in "real life," draw your own conclusions, and in the end buy the one that seems best to you (or, if all else is equal, always get the one with the best warranty.)

Good luck!
