Alpha Projest 9mm

Yes we can. But it's slow to reload because without the moonclip in place each casing has to be picked out by hand with fingernails. Now that's fine for slower paced target plinking. But useless for any sort of faster paced shooting.

Edgriffin, the only other revolver currently out there is the Charter Arms gun. Up to fairly recently this appeared to be a brand best carried a lot and shot little. Supposedly this has been changed around with new owners as of a couple of years ago. You can read about it with a couple of google searches and at the same time do a search on "charter arms review" or "charter arms reliability" and get a feel for how well this has worked out.

One thing to keep in mind is that you would be going into a buy on the Alfa Project gun knowing that it's a company with a short history of revolver making. So over the longer term parts could become an issue if they were to go away any time soon. But that is balanced by the low price. It just depends on if you're OK with gambling on that amount.

The 9mm gun itself is lovely to shoot and from the things I saw inside when I installed the Rusty Wood spring kit it's neatly made with a good design. As delivered the main spring is overly heavy and I heartily recommend the RWT spring. With the new spring the trigger pull changes to something similar to a S&W that has had a Wolf spring installed. And that is just fine.

Size wise it's a relatively compact gun and pretty much the same size in all respects as a K frame S&W. The short barrel 9mm AP I have holsters just fine in the leather duty style holsters I have for my K frame S&W.

All in all I'm more than happy about buying the gun. It's a good shooter and the moonclip setup gives it a whole different experience from a .38Spl or .357Mag rimmed gun to handle. And it is the ideal revolver to add to a collection that has a 9mm or two and no other revolvers for cutting down on the ammo supply issues.

I agree BC with what you said. It's just a neat revolver to add to the collection I have one great gun. My favorite cartridge is 9mm. But I love my wheel guns in 38 and 357 and the calipers go up from there

I thought the Alpha's were too much but...maybe not?

You had me going for a moment. If they are the same hole spacing as the K frame S&W (I checked once but not to an exacting degree) then they are still going to end up at $9 each or more. A pack of 10 is $75 US at the moment and that means we're looking at likely $100 with exchange and shipping.

Of course if they do work and if TK Custom will mail to Canada at least we can get them.

I love my AP 9mm 9251C full cylinder !!

Why did I get a 9mm revolver ? Well I got it on sale at Rustywood during his Xmas sale ,very good price.I also saw one in person at Cabelas and it looked nice ,felt nice and was well made with solid lockup.Another big factor in my purchase was the fact that I had 2 semi-auto rifles in 9mm and 2 auto pistols as well ,so it was a no brainer.

Rusty also threw in the spring kit with the gun and I also bought the aftermarket Walnut stippled grips ,very nice and comfy indeed.

Only problem is I only have 4 moons ,and waiting for more when they become available from Rustywood ,but yah......too bad about the price.

By the way, locally a buddy has one of the old S&W 9mm revolvers. He borrowed one of my AP moonclips to try. The center hole on the AP clip was too small. Apparently the 6 lobed hole I see on the TK clips is needed to fit the S&W. But the issue does suggest that the hole on the TK clips might also now be too BIG to engage the ejector on the AP revolver. I'm going to see if he has one of the S&W clips I can try. If so cost be darned, I think I'll see if TK will mail to Canada.

I'll post back on how the clip test works out if he actually has one.

If they work, then I'd be in for setting up a group buy to amortize the shipping costs. Would be fun to try my 9261 at some IPSC matches, but I'd want at least 30 moon clips.

I talked to the guy with the S&W tonight. He's got one of the moonclips and we're going to try this out at our IDPA practice this coming Wednesday. More after that about how it works.

Vanman, if you get a GOOD moonclip load/unload tool you can get away nicely with less clips. There's various models out there that make zipping the round in and out of the clips no difficult than loading up speed loaders.

I've got the two that came with the gun and I bought 10 of the AP ones when they were around. I'd like to add another 10 to the stack if these work.

Thanks for the tip BCRider. Looking forward to what you find out next Wednesday.

I see that Brownells sells TK moonclips and their shipping to Canada is usually pretty reasonable (10.95 for most small stuff I've ordered)

One thing i noticed though....in the listing for the TK K frame clips they show different part numbers for use with different brands of ammo.

That wouldn't be much use for reloaded ammo that's usually a hodge podge of different brands of brass.
