Alternate Mag to Ruger BX-1 in 22LR

Hi All,

I recently purchased a Ruger Precision in .22LR (Photo's coming soon).

It came with 2 x BX-1 rotary mags, but I wanted to see if they also made the curved mags for it (BX-15, BX-25. etc).

I found conflicting posts which said that the curved Ruger 10/22 mags also fit on the Precision, but I also found posts which said that they are not interchangable.

Does anyone have any idea if the 10/22 mags fit in the Precision?

Cheers!

Stateside they come with 15rd mags from the factory.

I suspect the only reason yours came with 10 rounders is its easier to just throw those in than pin the 15 to 10 to satisfy the horse cops.

Thanks Suther, I appreciate the help.

It looks like the link you shared states that the Ruger Precision 8401 accepts all 10/22 mags. So it should be interchangeable.

I will try and search for a BX-15 in .22LR, what works with 10/22 and that should do the trick.

Thanks again!

IRG usually has the best prices but they only have the longer ones in stock right now in Canada. You could likely order them from their US site and get them in a month or 2

Depending on how many you want to buy the price savings might be worth it?

Here's an in stock Canadian source for the 15/10 rounders,

Thanks Can-Down.

I don't know if I missed it, but the link is for the magnum sized mag (.17HMR / .22WMR), I need .22LR.

I saw the BX-25 on IRG, but wasn't sure if it hangs too low. Also, its a large mag to have mostly empty.

Thanks!

Your correct, I missed it.... :)
Best bet is likely to order them through IRG as they seem to be out of stock in most places.

Thanks all, I appreciate the help. I will order from IRG today.

I suspect with all the political influence, stores are holding less inventory because they do not want this moronic government to freeze/ban an item for S**t's and Giggles, then they have stock they cannot sell. Just my thoughts.

Cheers!

Import fees, taxes, shipping... Going to be a $100 magazine

Might not be that round of a number but clearly shipping and the $20 import fee or what ever it is for 1 or more mags is not included. I don't beleive they charge extra for their time pinning the magazine.

Personally given the supply issue up here, if I had a few extra hundred bucks I'd import more then I needed and provide a service for other gunutz and perhaps find a small opportunity to recoup or at least severy reduce the import costs.... The mags are definitely cheaper in bulk as the import cost and shipping is the same, only the taxes will increase.

Mostly empty? are you wishing for a 12-15 round mag or larger?
I tried to make a 15 from a 25, first project was not so successful, uggglleee

He's probably referring to the horse cop interpretation that says 10/22 mags are limited to 10 rounds, making a pinned 25rd mag only 40% full.

As Suther points out, for dumb reasons the 10/22 mags are limited. I'm guessing that the attraction to the 15 rounders for the OP is easier mag changes with the longer body.

Not sure if its possible, but you may be able to modify the receiver on the RPRR to take Dlask tuf-22 25rd magazines. That would allow for easier mag changes and higher capacity.
People modify stock 10/22s to take those Dlask mags, I assume the Ruger Precision can be as well?

I would guess those mags are too long for prone or bench shooting?

Group order ?.
I'd be in for 2 15 round mags.
Too expensive otherwise.
$24 US is 33 CDN plus 20 import fee plus taxes in your province plus $20 to ship.
That's close enough to 100 to say whoa,no go

I found the extended mags very loose, mind you this was in a volquartsen 22wmr. I went back to the standard short mags.

Why not modify the plastic chassis for tuff mags?

They would stick down a bit for sure, likely similar to a BX-25.
I've ran Spectre's 10/22 mag adapter for the 597 banana mags in prone with a 10/22 and they weren't too long for prone for me (Atlas bipod, AG rear bag), but there wasn't alot of room to play with.
Tandemcross and Magload make extensions for the 10/22 rotary mag, and I've seen people 3D print their own. Those would be low profile and easy to handle if you kept with the 10rd mags.

I love IRG and being able to find stuff I can't otherwise get, but the price to play is steep. Even buying a few mags, which on the surface even at the US prices is a good deal - those cost savings get eaten up by a number of fees and through exchange. At one point a couple of years back, it was still worth it, but the fees have really ballooned to the point where it is severely cost prohibitive now, unless you have deep pockets.
