Alternative Storage Options

For restricted firearms, I understand the registered firearms must be stored within the dwelling of the license holder. Let's say the place of residence prohibits firearms (i.e. military barracks). Would I be able to store them at an alternative address?

I read somewhere that it might be possible to do this if I get the owner of the residence I wish to store the firearms at to write a note confirming they do not have access to the firearms yet another source claims there is no way I can store them if the owners of the residence do not possess an RPAL.

I was hoping some experienced firearms owners can clarify for me.

You are suppose to give them to the MPs for storage or your unit vault. Most people in the shacks just won't be an idiot and don't get caught.

That also means put it in your car for inspections or keep the case under something in your closet in case of a surprise inspection.

My experience with the Meatheads and personal firearms was a disaster. After being ordered to deposit my Restricted and Nonrestricteds at the Guardhouse, I made an effort to request them repeatedly in order to go shooting. When some numpty staff officer kept the bolts in a box in his office at Base HQ, I raised a stink with my RSM. Especially because I was somehow not supposed to have firearms in barracks, but shouldn't have bothered them for the bolts after hours.

Then I had to go away for a lengthy period. When I got back I found the locks cut off my handguns. One had the barrel removed and the other had been handled as someone tried to remove the barrel. I hit the roof! Another letter to the RSM explaining that my personal possessions had been accessed by people unknown and that I had a Criminal Code duty of care that overruled any base standing order. A few days later I was ordered to go pick up my guns and STFU.

Most bases have a line on the Clearance Card to see the MPs. Many have a checklist of questions if living in Qs with a line about personal firearms. That would be an unauthorized firearms register under the Firearms Act, and one question to be ignored. A simple, 'I'm not going to answer that question', is legal defence enough when the gruff Commissionaire gives you the form.
