I want to get a bolt action 22lr. I have been looking for a Savage MKII with bull barrel and accutrigger but don't want to get pigeon holed into one choice. What are some other options in the same price range?

Marlin 980.

The 981, tube-mag version of the 980, is available, so the 980 should be. Or at least your favorite GS can order it in for you.

Marlin invented the Micro-groove barrel and it helps their rifles deliver great accuracy.

My Marlin 60 semi-auto shoots similar sized groups with the same Winchester bulk Dynapoint ammo, 1.5 inches 5 shots at 100 meters, as my Savage MKIIF.

I own both the Marlin 980 and the Savage MKII,,,,of the two, Savage has the best trigger but the Marlin seems to have a better clip feed .... both shoot great...if I had to pick one ?????????????????????????Savage accutrigger

For the price range, there is not a whole lot of choices. The accu-trigger is one of the best advances in .22 rifles in a long time. Some of the Marlin rifles might qualify, but the T-900 trigger in the Marlins leaves a bit to be desired, and there are many posts on how to get better trigger performance out of them. However, in my opinion, it does not compare with the Savage trigger system. (I own three Mark II rifles and a Marlin 917)

I would consider paying a bit more and buying the Savage Mark II with a wood stock. The composite stock Mark II seems to be a bit "out of balance" to me. The laminated stock Mark II is a bit heavier, but the extra weight seems to help on the bench and in the field. I also have a thumbhole stocked Mark II, and between the two rifles, I probably fire 7 or 8 thousand rounds at Gophers. Manitoba and Saskatchewan are very target rich environments.

I had the same thought, recently, when I decided to buy a second 22. After some consideration I decided I'd be happy with a second Savage. It's just too hard to beat that trigger. As another poster said, maybe an upscale MkII would be a better choice.

The Savage mark II classic is a very nice rifle, but at over $600 you are in the price range of some other very nice rifles as well, although they still don't have that accu-trigger, but I have not tried them all and at that cost they may also have nice triggers. I found Marlins T-900 to be one of the worst triggers I have ever used.

There are no other choices. For the price of the MKII, you could compare it to the marlins. Im not sure why you would though.

Maybe you can find a used ruger bolt 77/22. These are well worth the wait and price if you can find one.

I have been having the same issue ever since I sold my Remington Model FIVE and have been:bangHead: ever since. That was untill I seen this;
