I’ve been looking forever for proper basepads for MagPul GL9 mags. I found that a little extra weight would help getting the mags to drop free when empty sometimes caused an issue.

No one seems to make them or care to make them. So we decided to make our own.

Testing aluminum ones right now, but will be using other materials like brass in the future.

I like!

Nice work. I really like the Magpul mags (reckon the 27 rounders are the perfect length for PCC) and ran some for a while but moved to genuine Glock because they have enough metal to stick to magnets from table starts etc.

I keep a Glock mag for magnets, also I put in metal inserts to my MagPul for magnets also.

But these MagPul mags 10/27 are the perfect length for me (170mm), same length as my open gun mags.

Agreed.

So how did you add the metal inserts to the Magpuls?

There are metal mag bases available but CBSA sees the fact that they add an extra 2 rounds despite the mags being pinned above the base plates.

Ours aren’t hollowed out, and don’t add +2

But regardless, if billowed out or not. If the mags are riveted at spot 14 or 15, it wouldn’t affect the 10 round capacity.

Only thing I would be concerned about is if the spring tension would be enough for hollowed out bases as now the spring is used on a longer mag.

CBSA would only see these if you were to cross the border, and if they were to test them and they only held 10 rounds then I'm not sure what issue they would have.

Madcow, keep us updated on the aluminum base progress. I have been looking for some as well for my glock mags , also good tip for epoxying a metal strip inside the mag for sticking to magnets.
PS - i have the comp and the offset mount all installed, hoping to get out this week to test. cheers.

Been struggling to find these for pmag in US. Can you ship to California?

Apologies Madcow, I wasn’t referring to your product but to the multitude of the ones available from the USA. Like the Taran Tactical Mag bases. Yes, they add a few rounds more to unpinned magazines, but to pinned mags they just add weight and don’t actually add any increased magazine capacity. There is no real rhyme or reason to CBSA’s thought process or even the application of common sense
