Ya know, there was a reason why they stopped us from using our mess tins. But I'll be darned if I can remember why.
It's probably why you found some unissued.
The ironic part is that I searched for a bit to find a set to assemble my restored webbing.

heh, either a nice subtle joke or sheer coincidence, but it was the unfounded panic over aluminum cookware causing Alzheimer's and memory loss.

It is called hardware disease. If you ever ate out of one of those POS you will know what I mean.

Hardware Disease occurs after an animal ingests a metallic object that then perforates the wall of the reticulum.
This perforation results in an infection that can be mild or severe.
In the cow or sheep, the reticulum is the first chamber of the forestomachs, lying under the bottom of the esophagus.
Are you implying that a Barbwire size Nugget of Aluminum got carved out of the Mess Set and went unnoticed into a Soldiers mouth over the tongue down the throat and into the Gut?
and by POS you mean "Pot Of Supper"
Really enjoy the sage and vague advise of our Infanteer community.

Sounds like the point of view of the guy who needs to sell them. Hardware disease does require a single exposure to "crap" it is cumulative. And do not refer to me as an Infanteer. I was a soldier.

Ha. Memories. I had a set issued for 15 years. Never used it. Not once. Now the KFS on the other hand got a lot of miles.
