I remember seeing these in the hands of some of the patrolling police in the busier spots in Austria in the 80's... I have always liked them. Shot one at a range in the states, and if I had the chance would own one. Too bad our firearm laws are so... well, retarded.

i had some guy at the Range insisting to me that these were legal and that they wre arranging for some non-res ones to come in  and no matter how many times i insisted they were prohib he just laughed and assured me i was wrong.

The not-so-rare Camo'belly Law Bird has been spotted!

Well, other than being named as prohibited... no more dangerous than a Browning BAR, but thats where we are today. Time for individual responsibility. Be allowed to own whatever you want, but if you break the law, it should break you. No more blanket, knee jerk, pandering legislation.

How does that work if you had to shoot left handed? It seems like you'd get blasted in the face based on where that ejection port is:eek:

Agree, Very FUUCK!

That's when you just smile and nod. Like when people try and tell you an SKS was a Soviet sniper rifle. Or that the 10 round mag in your enfield is illegal.

I have owned an AUG. It was a great shooter shooting just about any load, a 3 shot group within 3 inches of one another. Switching ammo types or weight, did not matter. I used to shoot woodchucks at up to 200 meters (bearm with the chucks was behind the 200 M silhouette rail) with the 2X built in scope.

Barrel replacement was a breeze! The takedown was also very simple as was conversion from left to right.

I sold it when it was still unrestricted.

Henry;)

That is actually pretty unimpressive - that is actually garbage for a 2000 dollars rifle!

I agree, for load that would be Jam up when feeding Ar15, would have no problem with the Aug, Very Accurate also, Too Bad!.

met a fellow today at the shop who has two, one in 9mm and the other 5.56. mind you he has all the prohib classes. He also had an occupation which put him in the position to aquire a crap load of weapons that people were turning into the police not knowing the laws....a few years back. so all he had to do was register them in his name. Never paid a dollar for them.....Nuts i know!

Tilt the rifle 45 degrees so the ejection port clears your face to shoot it from your non-dominant shoulder. Left hand bolts are available for left handed shooters.

I've never really been a big fan of the Steyr AUG, mostly just due to aesthetic preference (even though I actually like bullpup rifles over conventional). However the Steyr AUGs depicted in those photos you provided, IchBinEinSniper, I gotta say I like the new model and the rifle has finally gained my interest. It looks like it takes special magazines, but is it capable of taking common STANAG mags?

I played with an Austeyr at the Lithgow factory museum down in Australia a few years ago.

Now, I will freely admit that I am an old-school kinda guy (sig line would confirm my tastes!), BUT... The Steyr felt incredibly heavy and unwieldy for it's length (my SA PE90 feels delicate by comparison). I was really surprised - It was kinda like holding a 10 lb fire extinguisher up to the shoulder. I guess you could train to the ergonomics, but it just felt "wrong".

And how do you butt stroke somebody with a bull pup? I think a collapsing stock is a much better idea, personally. That would give you the fit options for armor / not, tall / small, and should collapse enough for vehicle ingress / egress.

But - To each their own!
