Am I limited to what Canadian gunstores carry?

Or can I buy guns in the states and get them back to Canada in a reasonable time?

You can't legally buy firearm in the US as a non-reesident, it has to be shipped, registered, and verified before you get hold of it. As hot-gail said, use Questar, that's what they do.

Thanks mike, I just checked that out. It says I cant have a Bushmaster machine pistol or Bushmaster Auto rifle. But some of these arent auto rifles or machine pistols, so what category would they fall under?

Also I see nothing for the armalite ar 50 which looks interesting to me, but I would only buy it if it was non restricted. Would it fall under that category?

The Bushmaster machine pistol and Bushmaster Auto rifle are specific models that are prohibited by name. I do not believe that the either one of them is in production anymore. This link is an example of the machine pistol.

And this is the Bushmaster Auto Rifle

These images are from Monkyman's excellent illustrated guide to the restricted and prohibited firearms.

The majority of the Bushmasters are considered to be variants of the restricted category colt ar-15's.

The armailte AR-50 is non-restricted, but there are signifigant supply issues with them and their ammuntion as the U.S. State Dept has instituted strict export controls on anything .50 cal.

the crappy part is that anyone pointing out stuff like that is more likely pointing out the loopholes in the system, and those incredibly valid and good arguments will one day be used to take away all our cool toys that didnt make the prohib list the first time around...
