If this has come up before forgive me as I couldn’t find it in search. Although I have read what I could find. So here is is..

I am in the market for a gift to me .22lr. I have always wanted a really accurate “nice” (relative) shooter. Top priority bring accuracy. I do lots of plinking with the kids, varmit/pest control and I love to punch paper when I get a chance. My budget is about $3k total of which I would like to keep the rifle and optics to about $1.5k each, give or take.

That being said for the money am I lying to myself that, for example a Annie 64 action or a Bergera (used probably) would be my best bet or should I just get a T1X and put some nice optics on it, maybe even a chassis (probably more for esthetics) Is anything in my price range really going to beat the T1X? An UPR maybe?

I have a T1x in .17 hmr that is a laser. Which is why my thoughts lean that way.

You opinions?

TIA

Classic wood stock rifle or chassis military trainer type. My final .22 purchase was an Anschutz 1710 DKL. Have a couple 64 series Annies, four 452 CZ's, couple Brownings. The 1710 is hard to beat.

I am a big fan of great optics. However, if I were you I'd get a 1710 in whatever config you prefer and cheap out on the scope or upgrade later. I have a 1710 dkl which I use for plinking and hunting and have a Nikon 2-7x rimfire scope (can't remember exactly which one) which I spent about $300 bucks on, which frankly is great for my purposes. I am frankly surprised how happy I am with the scope given the price I paid.

Having said that, never shot a T1x, but have handled a few and I know tikka makes great rifles. Boils down to what appeals to you. One thing to consider is the 1710's are heavy compared to both the t1x and the 64 action Annies. If weight is a consideration, you might want to look at the new 1761 from Anschutz, it is priced between the 64 actions and the 54 actions.

I put about 8k round through a T1x in ORPS type competition shooting last year. It's a pretty good rifle. But the feed system on it is pretty mickey mouse compared to something like a CZ 457. Also I found the bolt would bind at the back of the stroke if it had much side load on it. Overall the CZ 457 line is probably a better gun. In the CZ 457 MTR line, the stock is much much nicer than the factory T1x stock at only about $100 more. Accuracy was close for sure, but I saw some 457 MTR's shoot better groups than I was able to with the T1x.

Chassis guns are easier to shoot well if you will try to learn new things rather than stick with old knowledge. Bulls eye or Rimfire precision? It will change your direction and needs. My T1X is great but it’s in a chassis. Adds a lot of cost.

Thanks for the replies all.

I know I would like a Annie with a 54 action but I am not sure I need one. I guess the question would have been more appropriately asked if the Annie 64’s or, say, bergera’s hold anything in accuracy over the T1X? I am not hung up too much on aesthetics wood vs composite etc as I can’t see the color of the car when I am driving anyways. I live in the country so there is nobody to impress either . I will also never compete as I can’t even imagine how far it would be to go to an event.

If a 54 came up at a price not at retail I may bite.

You have asked a simple valid question for which there is no simple valid answer. If you really wish to take advantage of the terrific knowledge base available to those really experienced members of this site you will need to be a little more specific. For instance with the limited info you have provided my initial response would be to go over to the EE Rimfires for sale where the same person has for sale a scoped Bergara and or a scoped Tikka TX1. Either one is less than your proposed budget.

Me? I'd be telling you to buy one of the multiple CZ options whichever one YOU like the looks of. They will all shoot lights out. A scope recommendation I think you have to provide a little more info but I do agree the quality of the scope MAKES the rifle. Best of luck in your search.

Ps. There was a 54 action sporter Anschutz for sale in the EE a few weeks ago within your $1,500 budget. It sold but that does prove they are available to a patient buyer.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry I am not good with words and didn’t convey what I was looking for. I am not looking for advice on a scope and sorry I included my budget as it muddied the waters as it is totally arbitrary.

What I am trying to figure out is the differences, mainly in accuracy, between the price point of the T1X (or CZ since you added it to the mix) and the Annie’s with a 64 action like the 1903MS or Bergera B14 etc price point ($15-1700 ish range) I am more concerned about a performer than fit or finish, wood or composite etc. Question is am I going to get the same, or relatively so, performance out of the lower price point? Hope that makes more sense.

I think performance wise it’s rifle to rifle variable with those brands, except the Anschutz 54 action with ammunition it likes. My Tikka shoots very well with pretty basic ammo, but does my 10/22, so hard to know until you spend the $$. In your position I would buy a used Annie 54. Wait and save a bit or just go for it.

I have both a B-14r and T1x in Krg bravo’s. Accuracy is very similar with the right ammo. I like the additionnal weight on the B-14r. The T1x’s barrel profile is not a very heavy one. However, the trigger and the smoothness of the T1X is far better to my taste. The B-14r will soon get a triggertech replacement, but it wil increase the price gap between the 2 rifles. I am lucky both like the same ammo : center-x and sk biathlon sport in colder temps.

Thanks for your input, what I was sorta expecting. It is not really about saving rather setting a limit.
